Status: For a 8 month co-op term (Sept 2026 - May 2027). This is a full time paid position operating Monday to Friday 8:00Am - 4:30PM

Compensation: $21-$25 an hour, based on experience

About the Position

Occupational health and safety specialists focus on recognizing, preventing and managing potential risks to the health and safety of workers in their work environment.

Our OH&S Department is seeking an Occupational Health & Safety Co-op/Intern who will provide support to the department and client groups throughout the organization. If you are a self-motivated and safety-minded individual that wants to work in a collaborative team environment to advance safety at ATS Traffic Ltd, then this may be the role for you!

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and maintain all Health and Safety training requirements, including orientation, job-specific, and ongoing employee training.

  • Manage training databases and tracking spreadsheets by documenting individual records, monitoring certification expiries, and scheduling renewals as required.

  • Organize and deliver safety-related training sessions such as orientations, toolbox talks, and health and safety information meetings.

  • Support the implementation of effective training programs through classroom and computer-based learning methods.

  • Ensure new, transferred, and promoted employees meet all necessary training and licensing requirements after starting work.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, files, and documentation related to safety and training activities.

  • Maintain safety bulletin boards, handouts, and reference materials to ensure up-to-date safety communication across the workplace.

  • Provide guidance and act as a resource on health and safety matters to employees and management.

  • Research and recommend process improvements to streamline safety and training operations.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must be either recently graduated or currently enrolled in a post secondary education program with a specialization in Science, Engineering, Human Resource, or a related field.
  • A creative, fresh perspective and positive "can do" attitude
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience preparing reports is an asset

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines in a high-pressure environment.

  • Collaborative team player with the ability to build positive working relationships with clients and project teams.

  • Intermediate skill level in MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
