Intern Architect Design information

What does an intern architect design do?

An Intern Architect Design assists licensed architects with creating and developing architectural designs, drawings, and plans for various building projects. They work under supervision to conduct research, create 3D models, prepare construction documents, and help coordinate with engineers and clients. This position is typically held by recent architecture graduates working toward professional licensure, allowing them to gain valuable hands-on experience and fulfill required internship hours.

What types of projects and responsibilities can an intern architect design expect to handle on a daily basis?

As an Intern Architect Design, you can expect to be involved in a variety of tasks such as creating preliminary design sketches, preparing construction documents, and assisting with 3D modeling or renderings. You may also participate in client meetings, site visits, and collaborate closely with senior architects and engineers to refine project concepts. While you’ll often work under guidance, you’ll have opportunities to contribute creative ideas and develop technical skills. This exposure to different project stages helps you understand the full architectural process and prepares you for increased responsibilities as you gain experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern architect design, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intern Architect Design, you need a solid background in architectural design principles, drafting, and a relevant degree or enrollment in an accredited architecture program. Familiarity with CAD software, BIM tools such as Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite is typically required, along with pursuing or holding an architectural internship or student membership. Strong attention to detail, creativity, effective communication, and teamwork are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the ability to contribute meaningful design ideas, collaborate efficiently with project teams, and support the delivery of high-quality architectural solutions.

  • Create tools that convert architectural model data into measurable performance metrics to guide better design and delivery outcomes.
  • Create lightweight applications and utilities that help project teams leverage design data more effectively.
  • Collaborate with both software developers and design technologists to understand user needs and deliver practical solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews and follow software development best practices.
  • Help document application architecture, APIs, and user guides.

What we an offer at HGA:
