Operations Specialist - GIS & Field Operations
Fulltime, M-F | $40,000-$50,000 salary DOE | Work closely with executive team


PublicWorks1, a division of iWorQ Systems, is seeking an Operations Specialist to support and oversee daily operational functions, GIS data workflows, and a team of Field Data Collection Specialists. PublicWorks1 delivers pavement management services and software that help cities and counties assess conditions, manage work, track data, plan budgets, and recommend treatment strategies.


The Operations Specialist will report directly to the VP of Operations and work closely with the executive leadership team, playing a critical role in supporting company-wide operational efficiency, field execution, and data quality initiatives. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on GIS experience who is ready to step into a more strategic, leadership-focused operations position.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & GIS Management

  • Oversee GIS and mapping workflows, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and on-time delivery
  • Create, update, and maintain maps using GIS software
  • Request, receive, review, and manage GIS data (including shapefiles) from clients and external partners
  • Review incoming spatial data for usability, technical requirements, and quality control
  • Track and prioritize mapping and data requests to meet internal and client deadlines
  • Prepare internal operational, GIS, and performance reports for leadership review

Team Oversight & Coordination

  • Supervise and support a team of Field Data Collection Specialists
  • Coordinate weekly travel schedules, logistics, and accommodations for field staff
  • Serve as an escalation point for field issues, workflow questions, and operational challenges
  • Monitor field progress and ensure data collection standards and timelines are met
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and performance support for field personnel

Executive & CrossFunctional Collaboration

  • Report directly to the VP of Operations on operational performance, risks, and improvements
  • Work closely with the executive team to support strategic initiatives and operational planning
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve field efficiency, data workflows, and internal processes

Communication & Administration

  • Communicate professionally with clients to clarify mapping and data requirements
  • Coordinate with city and county officials as needed to support mapping operations
  • Manage travel documentation, receipts, and operational records
  • Support the daily administrative and operational needs of a small internal team
  • Utilize Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for tracking, reporting, and communication


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with GIS software and basic mapping functions
  • Experience working with shapefiles and spatial data from external sources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and data management skills
  • Clear, professional communication skills with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing or supporting field-based or remote teams
  • Background in logistics, travel coordination, or field operations
  • Familiarity with asset mapping, data collection, or geospatial projects
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute at a leadership or executive-support level
