Job description

The Kitsap Sun/kitsapsun.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a Summer Video Intern.
The Kitsap Sun is seeking a video-focused intern to join the newsroom for an eight-week internship during the summer of 2026, bolstering our local news reach across the Kitsap Peninsula. The candidate would add to the Sun newsroom's regular video production, independently and alongside Kitsap Sun staff members, as well as initiate and develop ways to grow Kitsap’s video presence with a creator/influencer mindset to storytelling. 

The position would pitch, shoot, edit and publish video content for kitsapsun.com, as well as native video optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and other emerging platforms. 

We’re seeking students who are looking for a professional-level experience and have the initiative, skills and judgment to excel.

The program will include extensive one-on-one coaching and mentoring, but students are expected to handle stories independently and effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

This role could include day and nighttime hours in the newsroomdepending on the newsroom’s needs and your schedule.

The pay rate is $18 an hour, for 40 hours per week. 
Responsibilities:
The candidate should have experience with video editing and social video production, as well as experience in local news. The candidate will be expected to initiate editorial video projects,  as well as review/analyze existing staff video for future opportunities based on performance and data, trends and audience behavior.
Requirements:

  • Candidates must be a current college or university student, or immediate graduate. 
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, adaptable and flexible.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Access to published writing clips required as part of application assessment for all newsroom internship roles.
  • Candidates should have facility with AI and automation, and experience in using it to enhance their journalism. 
  • This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
