Job description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for an Intermediate Municipal Water/Wastewater Engineer. This position is in our Cambridge, Ontario office with the flexibility to work in other locations in Ontario.ย 

The successful candidate will act as a design resource, project manager, and/or client manager within the Municipal Process Water/Wastewater Group, on Canada-wide water and wastewater treatment projects in the Municipal Sector.ย 

Key Responsibilitiesย 

  • Design of municipal wastewater treatment systems; including wastewater characterization, bench and pilot-scale treatability evaluations, PFD and P&ID development, production of detailed engineering drawings and specifications, construction supervision, and commissioning;
  • Economic and technical evaluation of treatment technologies;
  • Design, specification, and tendering of major process equipment purchases;
  • Economic and technical evaluation of specific treatment equipment;
  • Permitting and regulatory submittals;
  • Managing task execution, and providing guidance to other project engineers;
  • Working with other disciplines and coordinating design tasks;
  • Reviewing and managing budgets and project spend
  • Maintaining a project schedule
  • Communicating with clients and managing expectations
  • Managing change
  • Developing health and safety documentation
  • Reviewing and approving billings
  • Working with Client Account Managers (CAMs) and clients directly to develop scopes of work
  • Reading and understanding RFPs
  • Developing scope of work and time/task matrices
  • Working with other offices and business units to develop project teams
  • Visiting project sites to understand project requirements
Skills / Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Municipal Wastewater Engineering
  • Municipal Class EA experience
  • B.Sc. in Civil, Chemical or Environmental Engineering
  • Registered with Professional Engineers Ontario
  • Good knowledge of Process Wastewater Engineering Design
  • Sids handling/residuals management
  • Proven skills in project management, managing clients, preparing proposals, and estimating effort for tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with clients and staff in a team environment as well as independently
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills are mandatory
  • Be self-motivated and proactive.
  • Be enthusiastic to engage with the team and seek out new and exciting opportunities.
