Job Description

The Materials Development Laboratory Unit is seeking a self-motivated technician to support operations within its Welding Laboratory. The Welding Technician candidate will support laboratory-scale test article fabrication by performing several metal joining operations including electron beam welding and automated gas tungsten arc welding. Candidates may also perform limited mechanized and manual welding. The preferred candidate has relevant experience with G-code and/or CAM machine programming. This position requires interface with work sponsors through job scoping meetings, pre-job briefings, and completing required documentation.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Associates degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Journeymans Papers in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Qualification as a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator (or commercial nuclear equivalent) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
Preferred Skills

* Prior operating experience with automated metal joining processes utilizing machine programming code (G-code experience preferred)
* Prior test article fabrication experience
* Prior troubleshooting and/or preventive maintenance experience on complex machines
* Familiarity with additive manufacturing and/or machining processes including associated programming software
* Previous mechanized and manual welding production experience
* Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
* Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of products (i.e. Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.)

Pay Range
$63,900.00 - $97,800.00 annually
