Overview

Senior/Intermediate Structural Engineer (Facilities - Ports and Marine)

We are seeking a Senior/Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Building Infrastructure group across our Eastern Canada offices. In this regular, full-time role, you will lead technical design, analysis, and project management for a diverse portfolio of facilities, with a strong emphasis on ports and marine infrastructure. Leveraging your expertise in structural design, particularly steel and concrete, you will mentor junior engineers, manage project schedules, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver code-compliant solutions.

This is a existing position and can be based at any one of our following offices: St. John's, Sydney, Fredericton, or Saint John. We offer flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangement options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

Responsibilities

Design

  • Contributeย  technicalย  expertiseย  throughย  designย  leadershipย  onย  aย  varietyย  ofย  structuralย  projects,ย  including new-build and renovation projects in the ports and marine, industrial and institutional market segments
  • Prepare specications and details for drawing productionย 
  • Review designs, drawings and specications to ensure accuracy and conformance with applicable Codes and Standardsย 
  • Investigate existing structures and prepare condition assessment reportsย 
  • Review of shop drawings and provide eld services in design and constructionย 
  • Develop and manage discipline and/or project budgets and schedulesย 
  • Work with multi-discipline teams and coordinate structural scope with all aspects of the projectย 

Project Managementย 

  • Coordinate structural engineering team activities and support to project managers/technical sta in theย delivery of multidisciplinary projects across the companyย 
  • Input to operating teams to facilitate productivity/workowย 
  • Coordinate design team activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion Coordinate with sub-consultants and clients

Business Developmentย 

  • Leadership in providing quality client services, with particular emphasis with commercial and industrialย clients within the Facilities market
  • Leadership in expanding existing Dillon services and cross-selling Dillon services, with particular emphasis with institutional, commercial and industrial clients within the Facilities market
  • Contribute to proposals and development and new business opportunities
  • Business travel upon request

Innovationย 

  • Provide technical expertise to the development and implementation of technical toolsย 
  • Contribute to and encourage innovation/innovating on projects

Learning & Developmentย 

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional developmentย

Qualifications
  • A degree in structural/civil engineering.
  • Licensed to practice as a professional engineer in either Newfoundland, Ontario, Nova Scotia or New Brunswick.ย 
  • At least five years' relevant work experience in structural design, particular in the marine sector.ย 
  • Procient in the full range of design activities, including preparation of preliminary and detail design drawings and reports, contract document preparation and tenderingย 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant structural engineering Codes and Standardsย 
  • Prociency in modeling and analysis software (STAAD Pro and Risa 3D)ย 
  • Familiarity with current AutoCAD, Civil3D and Revit softwareย 
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Oceย 
  • Strong technical report and specication writing skillsย 
  • Capable of working on and leading several projects at the same time and with projects in dierent stages
Experience
  • Experienced in the design of reinforced concrete, masonry, wood and structural steel, with preference given to those with steel sheet pile wall design experience.ย 
  • Experienced in the design of wharfs, ports and marine infrastructure and other structures.ย 
  • Experience in construction contract administration would be an asset.
