Job description

About the Firm

Morris Adjmi Architects (MA) is an award-winning multidisciplinary design firm offering a comprehensive approach to planning, architecture, interior design, and art. Guided by a passion for placemaking, we’ve designed over 27 million square feet of built space in more than 25 cities throughout the U.S. and abroad. Our portfolio spans residential, hospitality, commercial, arts & culture, and institutional markets, with expertise in adaptive reuse, new construction, entitlement and zoning support, urban planning, interiors, and art services.

Our Interiors practice is shaped by MA’s Conversation-Driven Design Ethos, rooted in dialogue and collaboration. We believe the most meaningful designs emerge through an exploration of context, balanced composition, and creative vision. This ethos drives us to create interiors that are timeless yet contemporary, layered with materials and details that enrich the client experience. By blending architectural rigor with artistry, we craft environments that inspire, endure, and tell a story.

About You

We’re seeking enthusiastic Interior Design students or recent graduates eager to immerse themselves in the practice of interior design. The ideal intern is curious, collaborative, and committed to learning — someone who wants to contribute to real projects while also supporting the day-to-day operations of a design studio. You’re comfortable juggling creative assignments with practical responsibilities, open to feedback, and eager to explore all facets of interiors, from concept design to the material library.

Role Description

An Interior Designer Intern at MA will be immersed in the design process and gain hands-on experience supporting active projects across all phases. Interns will work closely with project teams on design presentations, drawings, renderings, and material research, while also contributing to the upkeep of the materials library and coordination with vendors. This is a full-time, paid Winter 2027 co-op position running from January 11 through April 29, 2027, providing meaningful exposure to real-world design practice and the operations that support it.

Key Expectations

  • Uphold MA’s Core Values through collaboration, curiosity, and commitment to quality.
  • Actively contribute to project teams under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Balance creative design tasks with operational responsibilities.
  • Show initiative, stay organized, and communicate clearly.
  • Approach each task with a willingness to learn and a positive attitude.

Core Responsibilities

Project Participation

  • Contribute to the preparation of client presentations, including renderings, mood boards, and material palettes.
  • Assist with drafting, modeling, and design documentation under supervision.
  • Conduct research on materials, products, furniture, and finishes to support design development.
  • Support concept design efforts through image sourcing and precedent studies.
  • Participate in project meetings and design reviews as part of active project teams.
  • Join scheduled site visits to NYC projects for exposure to construction and client interaction.

Library & Vendor Exposure

  • Assist in maintaining and organizing the interiors materials library as a shared design resource.
  • Support sample management, including ordering, tracking, and returning items.
  • Liaise with product representatives and vendors to stay current on new materials and products.

Firm Culture & Benefits

At MA, co-op students are integrated into the life of the office and encouraged to participate fully in our collaborative culture. We host weekly team lunches, firm-wide On-the-Boards presentations, a Beautiful Spaces offsite design inspiration series, and in-house art exhibitions. Co-op students are paired with mentors, supported in their professional development, and exposed to all aspects of practice.

This is a paid, full-time Winter 2027 co-op position.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a professional program in Interior Design, or Interior Architecture
  • Strong design sensibility and curiosity about interiors.
  • Proficiency in design and visualization software (Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, stay detail-oriented, and meet deadlines.
