Interior Designer

Full-time | Year-Round | Blackfalds, AB

Aggregate Design Studio is a team of designers located in Central Alberta, operating as an outsourced design studio, working under the direct supervision of registered architects, to create designs for clients, owners, and contractors alike.

Position Summary

This is detail-driven design work that turns ideas into something real.

As an Interior Designer at Aggregate Design Studio, you'll lead projects from concept through construction, developing creative, practical, and buildable solutions across commercial, industrial, agricultural, and multi-residential projects.

Working within a collaborative design-build environment, you'll partner with our architectural team, project managers, sales teams, clients, suppliers, and trades to create interior spaces supported by detailed documentation, 3D models, renderings, and presentations.

We're looking for an experienced designer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of their work, and balances creativity with strong technical problem-solving. This role is ideal for someone who values accountability, design autonomy, and the opportunity to make a direct impact on projects from start to finish.

This role offers significant autonomy and project ownership, supported by collaboration and mentorship from the Interior Design Project Lead and other senior team members as you become familiar with our design standards, workflows, and project delivery process.

What You'll Do

  • Lead interior design projects from concept development through construction completion
  • Develop space planning, design concepts, finish & fixture selections, and design solutions
  • Create and maintain 3D models, high-quality renderings, and presentation materials with support of a technologist
  • Prepare detailed construction drawings including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, interior elevations, details, and finish plans
  • Research, select, and specify finishes, fixtures, furniture, millwork, and architectural products
  • Coordinate designs with the architectural team, project managers, sales teams, consultants, and trades
  • Attend project meetings, site reviews, and client presentations
  • Interpret and apply building codes, accessibility requirements, and industry standards
  • Resolve design and construction challenges through practical, buildable solutions
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for design compliance
  • Manage project priorities and deadlines across multiple projects simultaneously
  • Take ownership of deliverables and maintain a high level of accuracy and quality control including your own work and the work of a technologist
  • Maintain resource libraries and organize design materials
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers throughout project delivery
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety expectations

What We Are Looking For

  • Ownership Mentality - Takes responsibility for decisions, deliverables, and project outcomes without requiring constant oversight
  • Self-Starter - Able to identify what needs to be done, prioritize effectively, and move projects forward independently
  • Detail-Focused - Produces accurate, coordinated, and well-resolved design documentation with minimal errors
  • Problem Solver - Approaches design and construction challenges with practical, solution-based thinking
  • Adaptable - Thrives in a fast-moving environment where priorities can shift and projects are often at difference stages simultaneously

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree from a recognized Interior Design program
  • Minimum 5 + years of relevant Interior Design experience
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Revit, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to create high-quality 3D renderings for presentations
  • Understanding of Building Codes and related regulations
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, detailing, and building systems
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing within a collaborative team environment
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Available to work Monday to Friday
  • Willing to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with flexibility for overtime

Assets

  • Experience in cabinetry or millwork design
  • Exposure to niche design work such as signage, flooring, or lighting design
  • Understanding design psychology and user experience in spaces
  • Experience across commercial, industrial, agricultural, and multi-residential projects
  • Background in construction or working with trades
  • Experience with Enscape or immersive presentation tools
  • Familiarity with precast concrete construction

Why Designers Enjoy Working Here

  • Work directly alongside the architectural team, project managers, sales, trade and construction teams
  • See projects move quickly from concept to reality
  • Influence design decisions through the entire project lifecycle
  • Gain exposure to all aspects of the design-build process
  • Work on diverse commercial, industrial, agricultural, and multi-residential projects
  • Experience greater design ownership and autonomy than traditional environments
  • A welcoming, social team environment

What Aggregate Design Studio Offers

  • Competitive wages based on experience, with regular evaluations
  • 6% vacation pay, health coverage, and wellness support
  • A culture that values time with family
  • Meal program, fuel discounts, and employee events
  • Clear training roadmaps and opportunities for growth

Join a team where creativity, collaboration, and practical design come together. At Aggregate Design Studio, your work will help shape meaningful projects and lasting spaces.
