Position Overview
Facilities Planning Manager (Design/Space Planning), NCI/OSFM: Axle is seeking a Facilities Planning Manager to support space planning, architectural interior design, and design review and coordination for new and existing space renovations within NCI office buildings and biomedical research facilities. This role conducts space surveys, plans and develops interior spaces considering function, user needs, building codes, durability, life cycle costs, energy use, aesthetics, and budget, and advises staff on interior design factors including space planning, layout, furnishings, materials, and color selection. The role reviews schematic design, design development, and construction drawings for compliance with specifications, coordinates relocation projects with on-site move management staff, and develops working knowledge of NCI OSFM's Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system, VisionFM. A minimum of an Associate's degree in Interior Design or a related discipline and at least six years of related experience are required, along with strong communication skills and excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

Deliverables

• Work products and documents related to implementing short-term and long-range strategic planning for the management of space data, real property, and personal property assets of NCI; managing space planning, architectural interior design, design review, and coordination of new and existing space - Ad-Hoc
• Work products and documents related to planning and developing interior spaces; advising staff on interior design factors; reviewing schematic design, design development, and construction drawings to ensure compliance with specifications; rendering design ideas in the form of pin-ups or drawings; selecting or designing and purchasing furnishings, artwork, and accessories - Ad-Hoc
• Work products and documents related to conducting space surveys; discussing and providing advice and guidance on areas to be surveyed and types of information to be gathered; providing advice on architectural standards, building codes, and plumbing and electrical regulations and guidelines specified by the CAFM system software - Ad-Hoc
• Work products and documents related to reviewing surveys; ensuring that all drawings follow appropriate standards and guidelines; working with staff to resolve and correct problems or deficiencies in architectural drawings and related information - Ad-Hoc
• Work products and documents related to using computer-aided drafting (CAD) and related software to produce planning and/or construction documents; reviewing shop drawings; providing detailed cost estimates; maintaining furniture inventory for reuse and retrofit of existing space - Ad-Hoc
• Work products and documents related to reviewing space inventory data within the CAFMS; ensuring that space is assigned and used per its original intent - Ad-Hoc

Statement of Work Details

• Work with staff on space planning, architectural interior design, and design review and coordination of new and existing space renovated within NCI office buildings and biomedical research facilities
• Conduct space surveys; discuss with and provide expert advice and guidance regarding what areas are to be surveyed and what types of information must be gathered
• Plan and develop interior spaces, considering factors such as function, user needs, building codes, durability, life cycle costs, energy use, aesthetics, and budget
• Advise staff on interior design factors such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, materials, and color selection
• Review schematic design, design development, and construction drawings to ensure compliance with specifications
• Work with staff on the design and placement of ergonomic equipment
• Confer with client to determine factors affecting planning of interior environments, such as budget, architectural preferences, purpose, and function
• Coordinate relocation projects with on-site move management staff
• Develop working knowledge of NCI OSFM's Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system, VisionFM
• Work with outside vendors to coordinate furniture procurement and installation
• Review surveys submitted by contract staff, in conjunction with other appropriate staff members
• Use computer-aided drafting (CAD) and related software to produce planning and/or construction documents
• Review shop drawings
• Maintain furniture inventory for reuse and retrofit of existing space
• Ensure that all drawings follow appropriate standards and guidelines
• Coordinate with trades, including contractors, architects, and engineers
• Conduct reviews to ensure that space is assigned and used per its original intent and the capabilities of the overall building structure and layout

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
Salary Range
$120,000-$125,000 USD
