Job description

The Design Release Engineer is responsible for design, development, implementation, and analysis of Fixed Glass and Door Glass systems while utilizing Carlex and OEM Best Practices and design guidelines. The Design Release Engineer will be responsible for developing full-solid CAD models (Math) as well as development of systems and components with all interfacing OEM commodities (sheet metal, interior Trim, electrical, etc).The Design Release Engineer will be required to provide on-site support at OEM facilities, off-site design locations, OEM designated test facilities, vehicle assembly plants and any other locations required to execute and meet program milestones.

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

**

  • Direct and coordinate all engineering and design activities for Carlex as the SI3 DRE at General Motors.

  • (internal/external) for assigned programs from SOR award

  • through Program Launch and maintenance.

  • Facilitate DFMEA/DESIGN REVIEW activities,

  • documenting all findings for presentation to the program

  • team and/or OEM and internal CFT (Cross Functional

  • Team) members.

  • Authorize for release, 2D & 3D data generated by

  • Designers; Assembly & Components.

  • Support prototyping activities at glass plants, value-add plants and component part plants.

  • Support pre-production & production builds at OEM facilities.

  • Perform technical liaison role between manufacturing plants, suppliers and the OEM customer.

  • Negotiate technical specifications, tolerances, and alternative design proposals with OEM customers.

  • Lead Product Development Team meetings (PDTs) at OEM customers and internally with Program Management Support.

    **REQUIREMENTS

    **

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Design/Engineering.

    Years of Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience in automotive products. Glazing product experience is a plus.
    • 5+ years of experience in automotive product design and GD&T using CAD tools (Unigraphics required, Catia is a plus).
    • Previous experience with major automotive OEM’s is a plus.
    • Previous experience with Teamcenter is a plus.

    Other Requirements:

    • Previous experience with General Motors design and engineering release systems.
    • Valid driver’s license required for business travel.
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
    • Reliable transportation required.
    • Regular and predictable attendance.
    • Work beyond the traditional 40 hours per week may be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and holidays.
