Job Summary

The Cake Decorator is responsible for frosting, icing and decorating cakes and pastries with writing, toppings and imagery for the display case, cake cooler and special orders. The Cake Decorator is responsible for creating and designing custom cakes per customer request, employing creativity and artistic ability. In addition, the Cake Decorator is responsible for tracking inventory and ordering supplies for the department.

Work Experience
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Serve customers in the Bakery Department while modeling Sendik's culture and providing "best in class" customer service, which includes, greeting, engaging, delighting and thanking every guest for their business
  • Answer questions regarding products and ingredients, offering suggestions and recommendations when appropriate
  • Take and fulfill customer orders via phone and in person
  • Apply frosting, icing and decorations to cakes and other pastry items for the dessert case and cake cooler, while also ensuring products are consistently stocked and rotated
  • Write, draw and create designs on cakes, cupcakes, cookies and other bakery products, using knives, scissors, frosting bags, frosting tips, icing nails and other equipment
  • Design and customize cakes, cupcakes, cookies and other pastries for special events such as weddings, birthdays and graduations, per customer request
  • Prepare icings and mix colors for a variety of frostings
  • Track inventory and assist Department Manager in writing and placing orders for products and supplies
  • Organize and store Bakery supplies and products in designated areas
  • Package, price and label bakery items
  • Assist with the training and mentoring of new associates in the Bakery Department
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety/sanitation regulations and procedures
  • Assist with all other Bakery Department duties as needed

Qualifications:
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age due to required operation of Bakery equipment
  • Prior Cake Decorating experience required
  • Strong level of creativity and artistic ability
  • Ability to create and carry out custom designs
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision when decorating and writing on cakes and pastry items
  • Excellent time management, prioritization and organization skills
  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions independently regarding department needs and priorities, under general supervision
  • Strong sense of team - ability to anticipate the needs of the team
  • Ability to work at a fast paced and efficient manner
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
