Interior Designer(part-time, 28 hours/week)

To provide complete planning and design services related to interior design improvements of existing facilities related to the BYU campus, and, under the direction of a BYU Senior Interior Designer or Interior Design Manager, act as Owner's Representative on projects for new construction or large remodels where an outside Architect/Design Consultant has been contracted for the design of the facility. The planning and design services include, but are not limited to, the following: meet with clients and consultants; conduct studies; prepare cost estimates, preliminary plans and working drawings; specification preparation; prepare project approval forms; assist with project inspections; approve shop drawings, develop color schemes and interior finish standards for campus, including but not limited to selection of upholstery, paint, floor coverings, window coverings, wall coverings, etc.; provide consultants with direction and feedback; and monitoring project budgets.

What you'll do in this position:

  • Consultation with requestors of projects
  • Plan and prepare drawings and specifications for shop and contract projects
  • Help develop and manage project budgets
  • Project Management and Oversight
  • Act as an Owner's Representative on projects where a consulting architect/interior designer has been hired
  • Support, uphold and help determine and establish campus interior design standards and adhere to university standards and policies
  • Keep up to date on all building codes and ensure that all projects conform to these codes
  • Ensure efficient use of space and budgets
  • Proper selection of finishes
  • Select and order furnishings
  • Resolve time delays in delivery and installation of furnishings.
  • Verify inaccurate billings, handle mis-shipped merchandise, solve problems that arise during installations
  • Inform clients of university standards and policies to ensure wise use of university funds

Level 1 (52): Bachelor's degree in any field and two years' Interior Design experience, or associate or bachelor's degree in interior design

Level 2 (53): Bachelor's degree in any field and 4 years' Interior Design Experience, or associate or bachelor's degree in interior design and 2 years' Interior Design Experience

Level 3 (54): associate or bachelor's degree in interior design and 5 years' Interior Design experience

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of construction documents
  • Specific knowledge of systems furniture specifications and other furnishings and finish specifications (Steelcase)
  • Administrative abilities to work with large budgets that fall into given requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Working knowledge and understanding of finishes and their appropriate applications
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, REVIT and CET
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Configura CET preferred
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Skills to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Level 1 (52): Bachelor's degree in interior design

Level 2 (53): Bachelor's degree in interior design & 2 year's Interior Design Experience

Level 3 (54): Bachelor's degree in interior design and 5 year's Commercial Interior Design experience with NCIDQ certification

52: $31.25to $40.50 an hour
