Job Description

The Staff Rabbi serves as the Jewish spiritual leader, teacher, and pastoral presence for residents, families, and associates within the community. This role provides comprehensive Jewish spiritual care, leads worship and holiday observances, offers pastoral counseling, and supports residents during times of illness, transition, and loss.

Working collaboratively within the Chaplaincy Department and interdisciplinary teams, the Rabbi ensures that Jewish traditions, rituals, and pastoral needs are honored with dignity, compassion, and cultural integrity.

Essential Functions

  • Provide spiritual care and pastoral counseling to Jewish residents, including visitation in Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Health Care.
  • Lead weekly Shabbat services.
  • Lead and coordinate Jewish holiday services and observances in accordance with the Jewish calendar.
  • Officiate at lifecycle events including funerals, memorial services, and other rituals as appropriate within the community setting.
  • Contact next-of-kin or Power of Attorney upon the death of a Jewish resident and plan/officiate memorial services when requested.
  • Facilitate Torah study, discussion groups, and other Jewish educational programming.
  • Serve as spiritual advisor to the Jewish Resident Council and attend monthly meetings.
  • Participate as a member of the facility's interdisciplinary care team.
  • Provide spiritual guidance during illness, injury, crisis, or end-of-life situations.
  • Participate in the Chaplaincy on-call rotation for hospital visits, and after-hours emergencies.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of two (2) years of pastoral experience as an ordained Rabbi.
  • Experience serving in communal, congregational, healthcare, or senior living settings preferred.
  • Experience in interfaith or ecumenical environments is preferred.
  • Rabbinic Ordination from a recognized Jewish seminary (Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, or Reconstructionist).
  • Master's Degree in Jewish Studies, Rabbinic Studies, or related field.
  • Sensitivity to the spiritual needs of older adults.
