Intercom Security information

What is an intercom security system?

An intercom security system is a communication device installed at entry points of buildings or facilities that allows occupants to communicate with visitors before granting access. These systems often include audio and/or video capabilities, enabling users to see and speak with visitors for added security. Intercom security systems can be standalone or integrated with other security measures, such as door locks and surveillance cameras, to control and monitor entry points efficiently. They are commonly used in residential buildings, offices, schools, and other facilities that require controlled access.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Intercom Security professional?

To thrive as an Intercom Security professional, you need a solid understanding of security protocols, electronic access control, and basic electrical systems, often supported by relevant technical training or certifications. Familiarity with intercom systems, CCTV, alarm panels, and related software is typically required. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving skills help you excel in responding to security issues and customer inquiries. These abilities ensure the safety and efficiency of building access control, providing reliable protection for property and occupants.

What are some common challenges faced by Intercom Security professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Intercom Security professionals often encounter challenges such as managing high volumes of visitor verification, responding to technical malfunctions, and ensuring secure communication between entry points and security teams. Staying alert and maintaining clear, professional communication is essential, especially during peak hours or emergencies. Regular training on new intercom technologies and protocols, as well as collaborating closely with building management and IT staff, can help address these challenges effectively.

Posted 15 days ago

Key responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable, latency-sensitive backend systems for the Intercom product line.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create robust backend APIs and drive the technical direction of projects.

  • Own the end-to-end development and deployment of backend systems, resolving problems that span beyond team boundaries.

Job description

About the Role

We are a small, dynamic team focused on building cloud-managed intercom systems. Intercom is our second newest major product line and is off to the best start of any product in Verkada's history. Our intercom allows customers to receive calls from anywhere - at their desk or on their phone - with rich video and 2-way audio, and we have a lot more to build.

We consider our team a startup within a startup, with a fair amount of ownership and autonomy. You'll be working alongside a dynamic team of firmware, mobile, and frontend engineers to develop this product line.

Join the fastest-growing frontier in our AI for the physical world portfolio: Intelligent Intercom Systems. The Intercom product line is a critical component of our intelligent building ecosystem, delivering rich, low-latency, multimodal interactions (video, audio, and access control integration) directly at the environment's edge. This is a "startup within a startup" opportunity where you will have significant ownership over the architectural direction of this burgeoning product line, which is already the most successful launch in Verkada history. We have ambitious plans to disrupt  , including AI-driven visitor screening and remote environmental sensing. You will work alongside firmware, mobile, and frontend experts to drive this core element of our physical security layer.

Who You Are
  • Excited by new products and startups
  • You think about delivering best-in-class products and experiences - not features
  • You can take a less-than-fully-fleshed-out product idea and drive it to completion
  • BS or a graduate degree in Computer Science, Maths, Engineering, or science
What You Bring
  • 7+ years of industry backend software engineering experience
  • 4+ years of professional experience as a backend engineer at a rapidly growing start up or innovative company.
  • Experience driving technical direction and leading engineers on project execution
  • Architect scalable systems and design latency sensitive applications for our Intercoms deployed around the world.
  • Experience collaborating cross functionally to design complex systems with simple and robust backend APIs
  • History of shipping out significant products. We are looking for someone who can own backend systems end-to-end.
  • Ownership mentality, resolving problems that span beyond team boundaries
  • Deep expertise with relational databases. Postgres experience a plus
  • Demonstrated expertise in either Python or GoLang
  • Experience with Kubernetes a plus
