Graduates can work in digital media, app development, advertising, or software companies, utilizing skills in design tools like Adobe Creative Suite and prototyping software. The degree often involves understanding human-computer interaction and may require a portfolio to demonstrate design skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an interactive designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Interactive Designer, you need a strong background in visual design, user experience (UX), and proficiency with design principles, often supported by a degree in design or related fields. Familiarity with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, and prototyping platforms is typically required. Creativity, collaboration, and effective communication are essential soft skills to excel in this role. These skills ensure engaging, user-friendly digital experiences that meet both user needs and business objectives.

How does an interactive designer typically collaborate with developers and other team members during a project?

Interactive Designers work closely with developers, UX researchers, and product managers throughout the project lifecycle. They often participate in brainstorming sessions, share design prototypes, and gather feedback to refine user experiences. Regular meetings and collaborative tools help ensure that design concepts are technically feasible and align with project goals. Job description

About Us

American Century Investments is a leading global asset manager with over 65 years of experience helping a broad base of clients achieve their financial goals. Our expertise spans global equities and fixed income, multi-asset strategies, ETFs, and private investments.

Privately owned and independent, we focus solely on investment management. But there's an unexpected side to us, too. We direct 40% of our dividends every year-over $2 billion since 2000-to the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. Our ongoing financial support drives the Institute's breakthrough work and mission of defeating life-threatening diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's. So, the better we do for our clients, the more we can do for everyone.

All who work here around the globe are inspired every day by the unique difference our hard work can make in so many lives. It shows in the curiosity we bring to every initiative, the deep relationships we build with our clients, and the way we treat each other in the hallway. If you're excited to learn more about us, we can't wait to learn more about you.

Role Summary

We're hiring a Senior Product Designer to help shape the next evolution of our digital ecosystem spanning customerfacing websites and native apps, internal tools, and emerging AIenabled experiences for retail investors, advisors, and sales teams.

This role will partner closely with product, engineering, content, brand, analytics, and marketing teams. The role blends strong visual craft with product thinking: evolving our design language, scaling our design system, and applying AIassisted methods to improve how we design, build, and deliver digital experiences.

This is an individual contributor role with meaningful ownership and influence across multiple products and initiatives.

This role reports to VP, Head of Digital and Client Experience.

This hybrid position will be based out of our Kansas City, MO office.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Define and evolve the visual and interaction language across American Century and Avantis Investors' digital touchpoints, ensuring clarity, accessibility, performance, and brand consistency.
  • Translate brand guidelines into scalable, reusable digital patterns, components, and templates within our design system (ACDS).
  • Design endtoend experiences and highfidelity interfaces for responsive web, native apps, and internal tools-balancing marketing storytelling with taskoriented utility.
  • Partner with product and engineering to turn strategy, requirements, and constraints into usable, shippable UI.
  • Prototype, test, and iterate quickly using interactive prototypes, usability testing, and experimentation informed by analytics and client insights.
  • Apply AIassisted tools and techniques thoughtfully within the design process (e.g., ideation, content generation, personalization concepts, accessibility support).
  • Contribute to design critiques, documentation, and shared standards that help raise quality and consistency across teams.

What You Bring to the Team (Required)

  • 7+ years of handson product design experience across digital products (consumer, B2B, or both).
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating systemsthinking, responsive web and mobile experiences, and the ability to scale design across multiple use cases, not just oneoff screens.
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma, including components, variants, autolayout, constraints, shared styles, design tokens, and interactive prototyping.
  • Experience creating or evolving a design system, including component libraries, patterns, usage guidance, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated comfort working in crossfunctional teams and presenting design rationale to stakeholders.
  • Practical experience using AI tools as part of the design workflow (e.g., generative visuals, copy assistance, promptdriven ideation, or AIsupported prototyping).
  • Demonstrates the American Century Investments Winning Behaviors: Client Focused, Courageous and Accountable, Collaborative, Curious and Adaptable, Competitively Driven.

Additional Assets (Preferred)

  • Solid interaction and motion design sensibility (micro-interactions, transitions) with a strong focus on accessibility (WCAG) and performance.

The above statements are not intended to be a complete list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation package with bonus plan
  • Generous PTO and competitive benefits
  • 401k with 5% company match plus annual performance-based discretionary contribution
  • Tuition reimbursement, formal mentorship program, live and online learning
