Their main goal is to make digital products—like websites, apps, and software—easy and enjoyable to use. They analyze user needs and behaviors to design workflows, page layouts, and interactive elements that help users achieve their goals effectively. Interaction designers often collaborate with UX designers, developers, and product managers to ensure a seamless user experience.

To thrive as an Interaction Designer, you need a strong grasp of UX/UI principles, user research, wireframing, and prototyping, typically supported by a degree in design, HCI, or a related field. Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, and usability testing platforms is commonly required. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities help you understand stakeholder needs and advocate for the user experience. These skills are crucial to creating intuitive, effective digital products that meet both user and business goals.

How does an interaction designer typically collaborate with developers and product managers during a project?

Interaction Designers play a key role in the product development cycle by bridging the gap between user needs and technical implementation. They frequently work closely with developers to ensure that design specifications are feasible and align with technical constraints. Regular meetings, design reviews, and iterative feedback sessions are common practices to ensure alignment and smooth workflow across teams.

Job description

Description

Who we are

Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Central Ohio, we're a privately-owned, independent healthcare navigation organization. We believe that no one should have to navigate the cost and complexity of healthcare alone, and we're on a mission to make healthcare simpler and more effective for our millions of members. Our big-hearted, tech-savvy team fights to ensure that our members get the care they need, when they need it, at the most affordable cost - that's why we call ourselves Healthcare Warriors.

We're committed to building diverse and inclusive teams - more than 2,000 of us and counting - so if you're excited about this position, we encourage you to apply - even if your experience doesn't match every requirement.

About the role

As the Principal UX Designer, you will be a trusted thought partner to UX Strategy leadership, partnering closely to transform UX strategy into exceptional customer experiences. You will lead the design of our most complex and strategically important initiatives, translating customer insights, business goals, and emerging technologies into intuitive, accessible, and meaningful experiences that make healthcare easier to navigate for members, clients, and Healthcare Warriors.

In this role, you will partner closely with UX Strategy, Product, Engineering, Data & Business Intelligence, and business stakeholders to influence product direction, inform experience strategy, and solve high-impact customer challenges. You'll combine exceptional design craft with systems thinking, facilitation, and strategic perspective to align teams around a shared vision while balancing customer needs, business objectives, accessibility, and technical feasibility.

As a key leader within the design practice, you will help elevate design excellence across Quantum Health by championing AI-enabled experiences, contributing to the evolution of scalable design practices, and leading through expertise, collaboration, and influence. You will serve as a trusted advisor to cross-functional teams, helping transform strategy into exceptional customer experiences while fostering a culture of human-centered design, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Location: This position is located at our Dublin, OH campus with hybrid flexibility or may work remotely anywhere in the United States of America.

What you'll do (Essential Responsibilities)

  • Transform complex business goals, product requirements, customer insights, and emerging opportunities into intuitive, elegant, and impactful end-to-end experiences, workflows, and interaction models that simplify complexity and deliver meaningful customer outcomes.
  • Demonstrate exceptional UX and UI design craftsmanship through compelling concepts, prototypes, and experience visions that align customer needs, business objectives, accessibility standards, and technical feasibility while influencing product direction and accelerating decision-making.
  • Lead journey mapping, service design, and design thinking efforts in partnership with UX Strategy leadership, bringing stakeholders together to uncover opportunities, challenge assumptions, and create innovative future-state experiences that deliver meaningful customer and business value.
  • Shape how AI is embedded across products, experiences, and workflows by identifying opportunities where intelligent capabilities create meaningful value for customers, employees, and the business.
  • Design intuitive AI-powered experiences, including conversational interfaces, intelligent recommendations, copilots, and agent-driven workflows, while promoting user trust, transparency, explainability, and responsible AI design principles.
  • Embrace AI as a design accelerator, leveraging emerging technologies to rapidly move from ideas to prototypes, streamline workflows, improve quality, and help establish scalable AI-enabled design practices across the organization.
  • Raise the bar for design quality by advancing design systems, reusable patterns, and best practices that create consistent, scalable, and exceptional user experiences.
  • Lead design reviews and partner with Product and Engineering teams to ensure experiences are thoughtfully implemented, customer-centered, and delivered with excellence from concept to launch.
  • Serve as a trusted design leader and strategic partner, influencing cross-functional teams, driving alignment, and helping shape product direction through customer-centered thinking, design expertise, and compelling storytelling.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What you'll bring (Qualifications)

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Factors, Psychology, Design, Information Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in UX, Product Design, Experience Design, Service Design, or a related discipline, with a portfolio demonstrating complex end-to-end experience design and measurable business impact.
  • Deep expertise in UX and UI design, including journey mapping, service design, interaction design, prototyping, design systems, and translating business requirements and customer insights into intuitive, impactful experiences.
  • Experience designing responsive experiences across web, mobile, and native applications, including familiarity with React Native, platform-specific design patterns, accessibility standards (WCAG), and inclusive design best practices.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decisions, drive alignment, and collaborate effectively across Product, Engineering, Research, and business teams.
  • Proficiency with modern design, prototyping, collaboration, and AI-powered design tools, with experience leveraging AI to accelerate ideation, research synthesis, workflow design, prototyping, and content creation.
  • A high degree of personal accountability and trustworthiness, a commitment to working within Quantum Health's policies, values and ethics, and protecting the sensitive data entrusted to us.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing AI-enabled experiences and a strong understanding of generative AI, large language models (LLMs), human-AI interaction principles, and responsible AI design practices.
  • Experience within healthcare, healthcare technology, digital health, payer, navigation, enterprise SaaS, or other highly regulated industries.
