Position Overview
The Colorado Judicial Branch is seeking an experienced
Java Developer Contractor to support the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of enterprise web applications, backend services, and cloud-based solutions. This role requires strong expertise in the Java/Spring ecosystem, AWS cloud services, REST API development, and modern DevOps practices.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on developer who can quickly understand existing systems, contribute high-quality code, and collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using Java SDK 21.
- Build and enhance solutions using Spring Boot and the Spring Framework.
- Develop, maintain, and integrate RESTful APIs and JSON-based services.
- Support web applications utilizing Thymeleaf, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Work with AWS cloud services including ECS, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
- Manage source control and development workflows using GitLab.
- Create, maintain, and troubleshoot GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and deployment activities.
- Support Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives using Terraform.
- Utilize IntelliJ IDEA as the primary development environment.
- Apply software engineering best practices including testing, documentation, maintainability, and operational support.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools where appropriate to improve productivity and code quality.
Required Qualifications
- Strong professional experience developing applications with Java.
- Experience with Java 21 or recent Java versions.
- Solid hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.
- Experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs.
- Strong understanding of JSON and API integration patterns.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experience with Git-based source control, preferably GitLab.
- Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab CI/CD.
- Practical experience developing, deploying, or supporting applications in AWS.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a contractor role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Thymeleaf server-side templating.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Amazon ECS
- Amazon API Gateway
- Amazon DynamoDB
- Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
- Professional experience using IntelliJ IDEA.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as:
- Claude Code
- GitHub Copilot
- Cursor
- Similar AI coding assistants
- Experience troubleshooting cloud deployments, build pipelines, and production issues.
- Understanding of secure coding practices and cloud security concepts.

Ideal Candidate
