Summary Statement

Position responsible for maintenance work on traffic signal\r\n& Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment. Candidate will\r\ninstall, modify, test, troubleshoot & repair traffic control signals,\r\ncommunications & ITS field devices. Position has rotational on-call duties\r\n& must respond to emergency situations (including nights, weekends, &\r\nholidays). Candidate must follow applicable safety procedures, operate\r\nequipment such as bucket trucks, underground locating equipment & electrical\r\ntest equipment. Candidate must also be physically able to lift materials such\r\nas pedestrian signal poles & other traffic signal equipment. Applicant must\r\nbe able to report to their duty station within 60 minutes to respond to\r\noperational emergencies\r\n

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here. \r\n\r\n Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of intelligent transportation systems equipment. \r\n \r\n Repairs copper-wired, fiber-optic, and wireless communication systems related to intelligent transportation systems equipment.\r\n \r\n Tests intelligent transportation systems equipment using detection software and a variety of testing devices such as multi-meters, meggars, GPS equipment, and oscilloscopes. \r\n \r\n Interprets blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams for the purpose of diagnosing intelligent transportation systems equipment. \r\n \r\n Applies the standards, principles, and practices of the department safety manual, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the National Electrical Code. \r\n \r\n Responds to emergencies relating to problems and situations involving intelligent transportation system equipment. \r\n \r\n Transfers data to and from field unit devices such as traffic signal controllers, piezoelectric axle sensors, and automatic data recorders into a computer database. \r\n \r\n Detects, locates, and marks out underground utilities. \r\n \r\n May perform field counts for traffic control and timing. \r\n \r\n Operates motorized equipment such as an aerial lift device with extended arm for purposes of repairing and replacing intelligent transportation systems equipment. \r\n\r\n

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Intelligent Transportation Systems Technician I\r\nApplicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\r\n\r\n Knowledge of electronics or electrical installation. \r\n Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). \r\n\r\n

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.\r\n\r\n\r\nPre-employment Drug Testing:Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.\r\n\r\nCriminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.\r\n\r\n\r\nAs a condition ofhire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).\r\n\r\nAll new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.\r\n\r\n
