Design the Intelligent Systems Behind Tomorrow's HVAC Technology

Location: *Indianapolis, IN (work is onsite to MUST be LOCAL)* | Schedule: 9am to 5pm | Payrate: $67.34/hour | *Start:* ASAP | Contract Length: 12 months to start, likely to extend

Are you a systems thinker who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges? PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to help develop next-generation HVAC products that are smarter, more connected, and built for performance.

In this role, you'll work across the entire product lifecycle—from concept and system architecture through integration and validation—collaborating with global teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and compliant solutions.

What You'll Do
  • Define and manage system and subsystem requirements using INCOSE systems engineering principles.
  • Develop functional specifications, interface requirements, system modes, and control logic.
  • Ensure requirements are clear, traceable, and validated throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Partner with hardware, software, controls, and test teams to drive successful system integration.
  • Manage requirements, issue tracking, and change control using JIRA and Confluence.
  • Support system integration, functional testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
  • Contribute to end-of-line (EOL) testing, commissioning, and diagnostic strategies.
  • Participate in technical reviews and support continuous improvement of systems engineering practices.
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
  • Experience in Systems Engineering or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Background in HVAC, automotive, rail, aerospace, energy systems, or similar industries
  • Experience with system requirements development, lifecycle management, functional decomposition, and interface management
  • Hands-on experience with engineering tools for requirements and documentation management
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of embedded control systems and communication protocols (CAN, RS-485, BLE, Ethernet, Wi-Fi)
  • Experience with HVAC controls, smart home technologies, energy management, or connected products
  • Familiarity with OTA updates, telemetry frameworks, INCOSE SE Handbook, ISO 15288, and MBSE methodologies
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills
