Job description

POSITION SUMMARYย 
Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) work as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction andย supervision of the Physical Therapist. PTAโ€™s implement selected components of patient/client interventionsย (treatment), obtain data related to the interventions provided and make modifications in selected interventionsย either to progress the patient/client as directed by the Physical Therapist or to ensure patient/client safety andย comfort.
PTAโ€™s assist the Physical Therapist in the treatment of individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest, whoย have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functionalย activities in their daily lives.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSย 

  • Satisfactory verbal, reading and writing skills to effectively and promptly communicate in English.
  • Sufficient eyesight to read paper or computer-generated medical records; read instrument panels; applyย therapeutic modalities such as ice, heat and electrical stimulation; monitor patients for adverse reactions toย treatment; adjust assistive devices and make visual observations regarding posture and functional abilitiesย such as bed mobility transfers and ambulation.ย 
  • Sufficient hearing to communicate with patients and other members of the health care team, monitorย patients by hearing instrument signals and alarms.ย 
  • Sufficient smell to assess patient status and maintain a safe practice environment.
  • Sufficient fine touch discrimination to palpate pathologic changes in soft tissue.ย 
  • Sufficient fine and gross motor coordination to manipulate/operate equipment controls and toย perform manual treatment/assessment techniques including, but not limited to, massage,ย ultrasound, electrical stimulation, stretching, neuromuscular re-education, goniometry andย manual muscle testing.ย 
  • Satisfactory physical strength to transport, move or lift patients requiring all levels of assistanceย and to perform prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, crawling, reaching,ย pushing and pulling
  • Satisfactory intellectual, emotional and interpersonal skills to ensure patient safety, to exerciseย independent judgment and discretion in the performance of assigned responsibilities and to interactย with patients, families and other health care workersย 
  • Documents patient progress and status at discharge in the medical record according to departmentalย policies.ย 

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSย 
Leads by example and exhibits solid leadership and teamwork while promoting the core philosophy of FYZICAL.ย 

EXPECTED WORK HOURSย 

  • Estimated 40 hours per week during normal business hours.ย 
  • Monday through Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm
  • Overtime eligible and/or Saturday hours available with pre-approval by the Clinic Director.

  • Other Compensation: This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives or bonuses related to clinic performance goals and the sale of retail items and wellness services.

  • Oregon Sick Leave (OSL): All team members accrue one hour of Oregon Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, which can be used for qualifying medical or safety reasons for yourself or family members.

  • Paid Leave Oregon (PLO): Participation in the state-mandated wage-replacement program, providing paid leave for qualifying family, medical, or safe leave events (eligibility for benefits requires earning at least $1,000 in the prior year).

  • Retirement: Employees may be eligible to participate in the company 401(k) retirement plan.

  • Oregon Military Family Leave: During a period of military conflict, employees who work an average of 20 or more hours per week are eligible for up to 14 days of unpaid leave per deployment.
