Academic Endocrinologist

Portland VA Medical Center/Academic Appointment at Oregon Health & Sciences University

The Endocrinology Section at the Portland VA Medical Center is seeking an outstanding Academic General Endocrinologist to join a highly collaborative and mission-driven Endocrine program in Portland, Oregon. This position offers a unique opportunity to build a rewarding academic career within an integrated VA-university partnership while caring for a highly appreciative veteran population. Candidates will join a collegial group of dedicated Endocrinologists committed to clinical excellence, education, innovation, and advancing Endocrine and Diabetes care through evidence-based practice and multidisciplinary collaboration.

The ideal candidate will have strong interests medical education, and academic program development.

Clinical Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive Endocrine and Diabetes care across multiple clinical settings including:

  • Outpatient continuity Endocrinology and Diabetes clinics

  • Inpatient Endocrinology consult service

  • Telemedicine and electronic consultation services

Clinical responsibilities may also include:

  • Management of insulin pumps for patients with diabetes both inpatient and outpatient

  • Thyroid Ultrasound and FNA and participation in Head & Neck Tumor Board

Academic Mission & Teaching

Teaching is a core mission of the Endocrinology team. Faculty work closely with medical students, Internal Medicine residents, and Endocrinology fellows from Oregon Health & Science University in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in:

  • Bedside and clinical teaching

  • Fellowship and resident mentorship

  • Didactic education

  • Development of educational curricula

Clinician-educator faculty are encouraged to pursue leadership roles in educational and clinical programs, while clinician researchers are supported in developing productive academic research programs.

Research, Quality & Leadership Opportunities

Additional information:

  • Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

  • Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year, and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

  • Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

  • CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

  • Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.

  • Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.

Job Requirements

U.S. Citizenship. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.

Compensation Information:
$230000.00 / Annually - $315000.00 / Annually
