Job description

Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of custom electronic hardware for advanced mass spectrometry systems. You will own PCB and subsystem designs from concept through production, working across disciplines to deliver high-performance, low-power solutions in a complex electromechanical product.

To deliver on our ambitious goals, we utilize technologies ranging from low-noise analog to complex FPGA working in concert. While deep expertise in every domain is not required, strong fundamentals, curiosity, and the ability to learn quickly are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electronics for next-generation handheld mass spectrometry platforms.
  • Own the full lifecycle of custom electronic assemblies (PCBAs, cables, and subassemblies) from architecture through production and field support.
  • Lead design decisions and trade-off analysis across multiple subsystems.
  • Develop and release production-ready PCBAs supporting high-performance sensing and data acquisition.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve existing products and bring new products from requirements to production.
  • Support efforts to improve product reliability by identifying and addressing design and process shortcomings.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience with end-to-end PCB design, including component library creation, schematic capture, layout, bring-up, and debug.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer.
  • Experience with FPGA/CPLD design using Verilog.
  • Solid understanding of electronic test equipment and methodologies.
  • Experience working through design reviews, functional testing, product life cycle management suites, and quality management systems in a structured development environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal system performance.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Altera (Intel) programmable logic devices and the Quartus toolchain.
  • Experience in two or more of the following areas:
  • Familiarity with electronic design simulation tools (LTSpice, TI TINA, etc.).
  • Exposure to digital signal processing, closed-loop control systems, or embedded software (C/C++/Python).

Education & Experience

  • BSEE / MS in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 7 yearsof relevant electronic design experience.

  • Location: This position is based out of our Burlington, MA headquarters
  • Qualifications: We do not expect candidates to have deep expertise in all listed areas-strength in several domains combined with the ability and desire to learn others is highly valued.
  • Compensation: The annualized base pay range for this position at the commencement of employment is expected to be between $140,000 and $155,000 per year/per hour; the base pay offered may vary depending on several individualized factors, including market location, job-related skills, and experience. This position may also be eligible to receive additional compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission, or long-term incentives.
