Founded in 2014, Jefferson RISE is a tuition-free public charter school serving nearly 800 students in grades 6-12 in Harvey, Louisiana. At Jefferson RISE, we believe every student deserves a real path forward. Whether that means a four-year university, a skilled trade, the military, entrepreneurship, or something else entirely, our job is to make sure every student graduates prepared and ready. We get there through rigorous academics, strong relationships, consistent accountability, and a genuine commitment to each student's individual success.

Schedule and Calendar:

Volunteer schedules are flexible and vary based on the needs of the department, activity, or event they are supporting. Volunteers may be asked to assist on a one-time, occasional, or recurring basis, depending on availability and school need. Specific days, times, and commitment expectations will be discussed and confirmed with the assigned staff supervisor prior to placement. Volunteers must check in and out at the front office for every visit and are expected to follow the schedule agreed upon with their supervisor.

Position Summary

Jefferson RISE Charter School is seeking dedicated, reliable volunteers to support staff, students, and school programs across a variety of departments and activities. Volunteers play a valuable role in extending the capacity of our team — assisting with classroom activities, events, and administrative tasks, with opportunities to support areas such as clubs and athletics as needed — while helping create a safe, welcoming, and well-supported environment for students.


The ideal volunteer is dependable, positive, and committed to the mission of Jefferson RISE, bringing energy and support wherever needed while working under the guidance of assigned staff.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Support and Assistance

  • Provide support to assigned staff member(s) with classroom activities, events, or administrative tasks as needed
  • Assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of school events, performances, or programs
  • Help supervise and support students during designated activities under staff direction
  • Assist with organization, materials management, or logistics as assigned by supervising staff

Culture and Conduct

  • Model Jefferson RISE's expectations of being safe, respectful, and responsible at all times
  • Maintain a positive, professional demeanor when interacting with students, families, and staff
  • Follow all school policies, procedures, and safety protocols, including check-in/check-out procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters

Collaboration

  • Communicate proactively with the assigned staff supervisor regarding availability and scheduling
  • Follow direction and guidance provided by staff at all times
  • Represent Jefferson RISE positively within the school and broader community


CANDIDATE PROFILE

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to pass a background check as required by school and state policy
  • Reliable and punctual, with the ability to commit to agreed-upon schedule or events
  • Comfortable working with adolescents in a school setting

COMPENSATION

This is an unpaid volunteer position. Volunteers do not receive wages, stipends, or employee benefits through Jefferson RISE Charter School.


While there is no monetary compensation, volunteers gain meaningful experience working alongside educators and staff, contribute directly to student success, and become part of the Jefferson RISE community. Volunteers may also be recognized for their contributions through school events, appreciation initiatives, or letters of recommendation upon request.
