Integrations information

What are integrations in the context of a business or technology environment?

Integrations refer to the process of connecting different software applications, systems, or platforms so they can work together seamlessly. This often involves transferring data between systems, automating workflows, and ensuring that information is consistent and accessible across different tools. Integrations help organizations improve efficiency, reduce manual work, and provide a unified user experience. Common examples include connecting a CRM with an email marketing tool or syncing data between an e-commerce platform and inventory management software.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an integrations specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Integrations Specialist, you typically need expertise in systems integration, data mapping, API management, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with integration platforms (like MuleSoft or Dell Boomi), REST/SOAP APIs, and relevant certifications (such as MuleSoft Certified Developer) is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help facilitate collaboration between technical and non-technical stakeholders. These competencies are crucial for ensuring seamless data flow and interoperability between business systems, which directly impacts operational efficiency and business outcomes.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in integrations roles, and how can they be overcome?

Professionals in Integrations roles often face challenges such as managing complex data mappings between disparate systems, ensuring data consistency, and troubleshooting connectivity or compatibility issues. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including software developers, business analysts, and IT support—is crucial for resolving these challenges efficiently. Proactive communication, strong documentation skills, and staying updated with the latest integration tools and protocols can help overcome these obstacles and ensure smooth project delivery.

What is the difference between Integrations vs Software Developer?

Employer and industry usageUsed in IT, SaaS, and tech companies to connect systemsUsed across tech, finance, healthcare, and other industries for software creation
Common search and comparison intentUnderstanding roles involving system connections and integrationsUnderstanding software development roles and coding tasks

Integrations specialists focus on connecting different software systems and ensuring seamless data flow, often working with APIs and middleware. Software developers design, build, and maintain software applications through coding. While both roles require technical skills, integrations emphasize system connectivity, whereas developers focus on creating software solutions.

Job description

About Grubhub

At Grubhub, we believe food is more than just a meal: It's a source of discovery, connection, and pure enjoyment. There's a time and place for every type of dish, from hidden neighborhood gems to tried-and-true favorites, and we exist to connect people with the food they love in all the ways they like to dig in. We've been at it since 2004, but now, as part of Wonder, Grubhub is operating with a renewed sense of momentum and the high-velocity energy of a powerhouse startup.

As a leading U.S. ordering and delivery marketplace, we feature over 415,000 merchants in more than 4,000 cities, creating the ultimate food experience by elevating online ordering through innovative restaurant technology, easy-to-use platforms, and an improved delivery experience. We are constantly finding new ways to innovate-from integrated grocery delivery with groceries powered by Instacart to exclusive loyalty programs. Join our team, based out of New York City, Chicago and Denver, and help us give our diners the exceptional value they deserve.

About The Opportunity

Grubhub is looking for an Associate to join our Integrations & Solutions team to support integration feature enhancement implementation at both a platform and partner-specific level. You'll work cross-functionally between product, engineering, success, operations, finance, data, and program management to help develop and implement Grubhub's technical strategy.

Our Integrations & Solutions team connects our external facing teams and the partners they work with, to our product and engineering teams to identify and implement solutions focused on improving a variety of KPIs. As Grubhub continues to grow, the Integrations & Solutions team will also continue to grow and evolve in how we best support our customers and partners.

We're looking for someone eager to learn the ins and outs of new feature development and partner integrations, who can manage day to day activities while building toward a bigger-picture understanding of how to achieve our goals. While not a fully technical role, a willingness to learn APIs and other technical concepts will help you succeed in this role. We're the team that helps bring stability and growth to our platform through innovation. We analyze data to assist partners in understanding which solutions will work with their current technology stack. This role will report to the Associate Director of Integrations & Solutions in the Merchant Network organization.

The Impact You Will Make

  • Project Management - You'll be working with multiple merchant partners and internal stakeholders to help scope and implement new features. Responsibilities include: joining external technical calls, helping implement product enhancements, interpreting technical documentation, fielding integration feature questions from merchants and helping drive project progress to address any issues or roadblocks promptly.

  • Technical Aptitude - You will be partnering with some Enterprise merchants and integration partners to help them maintain and improve their integration. You will have support from product and engineering along the way as you build your skills in technical scoping, troubleshooting, and planning calls with partners.

  • Strategy - You'll work closely with the leader of your team to identify ways to support merchant partners and learn to analyze data and results in order to make recommendations on areas of improvement.

  • Influence - This is a highly cross-functional role. You'll be expected to build relationships across multiple teams within Grubhub to advocate for your projects and initiatives. You'll be interacting with Engineering, Product, Operations, Success, and others.

  • Analyze - We're looking for someone who is developing the ability to think about short term and long term strategy simultaneously. You'll be working with relevant teams to learn how to weigh the impact and priority of multiple technical initiatives to optimize integration performance.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Outstanding, positive attitude

  • 1-3 years of experience in a technical, operational, consulting, or associate product management role (internships count!)

  • Interest in technical concepts and/or exposure to managing aspects of a larger project

  • Proven ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment

  • Great interpersonal skills, both written and verbal communication, and strong group facilitation skills. Good listener, capable of understanding complex technical issues, and translating them into an appropriate solution

  • Demonstrated ability to work across different groups to solve problems and achieve results

  • Strong documentation and organizational skills; willingness to learn process mapping and requirement gathering

  • Exposure to APIs, restaurant technology, or point-of-sale technology a plus

  • Familiarity with SQL a plus

As a matter of company policy, Wonder does not sponsor applicants for employment visa status for this role.

Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome-and encouraged-to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.

#LI-Hybrid

Chicago: $67,500 - $74,000 per year.
