Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented below is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

About the role

This Paralegal, Risk Management Services role is a temporary position supporting the Risk Management Services team at Intact Public Entities. The primary focus of this role is reviewing contracts and agreements for municipalities, schools, community service organizations, and other organizations insured by Intact Public Entities. Working closely with our Risk Management Consultants, you will review a broad range of agreements to assess contractual risk transfer, with a particular focus on indemnification, insurance requirements, and other contractual provisions that may expose our clients to unnecessary liability. You will provide practical recommendations to help ensure contracts appropriately protect our clients and effectively transfer risk. In addition to contract review, you will conduct legal research, monitor legislative developments, and contribute to the development of educational resources for clients and internal teams.

What you'll do here:

  • Review contracts and agreements from a risk management and insurance perspective, assessing contractual risk transfer, indemnification, insurance requirements, and other contractual provisions to help protect our clients from unnecessary liability.

  • Review a wide variety of agreements, including leases, construction contracts, service agreements, facility use agreements, mutual aid agreements, boundary road agreements, procurement documents, and other municipal and public sector agreements.

  • Monitor and review legislative changes that may impact our clients.

  • Research and write articles on insurance claims, legislative changes, and case briefs on recent legal decisions.

  • Develop practical guidance, contract templates, and educational resources to support clients and internal teams.

  • Work collaboratively with Risk Management Consultants to provide practical contract review advice to clients.

What you bring to the table:

  • Licensed Paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience reviewing contracts and agreements, with demonstrated experience assessing indemnification, insurance requirements, and contractual risk transfer.

  • Experience working in the insurance, risk management, municipal, or public sector environment is strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of insurance principles and the relationship between insurance requirements and contractual obligations.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts in practical, client-friendly terms.

  • Strong research and analytical skills.

  • Completion of, or working toward, a RIBO licence would be considered an asset.
