If you are passionate about underwriting and want to actively contribute to the transformation of the commercial insurance sector within a fast-growing company, we are looking for an Underwriter to join our team.

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Underwriter's main duties include risk analysis of files submitted by brokers and is responsible for underwriting requests while ensuring that the quality of risks underwritten is adequate to achieve the maximum profitability sought. They determine the terms and pricing of risks and, where necessary, call on the expertise of Team Specialists and/or product managers (PLM). They must comply with established internal standards and procedures and, where necessary, obtain the authorization of the Team Leader and/or partner insurers following a referral. In the event of a risk refusal, they must be able to justify the reasons for the refusal with succinct arguments.

Main responsibilities

New Business and Renewals

  • Liaise between brokers and insurers to negotiate and determine insurance terms and conditions.
  • Develop, underwrite and service new business in accordance with the guidelines of the various programs and contracts or as a wholesaler
  • Collaborate with colleagues on current and future opportunities
  • Understand all wordings/products and underwriting guidelines
  • Understand all contracts/binders and operate within them, referring as required
  • Review and act upon inspections and recommendations
  • Work with underwriters on contracts and underwriting standards
  • assistance to the team in charge of renewals, according to the needs

Development

  • Initiate and maintain a privileged relationship with brokers by offering them top-quality service
  • Represent the company at industry events, as required
  • Develop business relationships with existing and new brokers through marketing visits

Endorsements

  • Analyze requests for amendments by endorsement, rate them if necessary, based on the content of the request, and provide instructions to underwriting assistants.
  • Review and approve policy cancellations submitted by underwriting assistants.

Profile

  • Have min 3-5 years of commercial insurance experience
  • Significant portion of the Portfolio is in the Realty segment, driven by Property underwriting
  • AEC, DEC or insurance broker's license, an asset
  • CRM, CIP, FCIP, an asset
  • Adaptability and flexibility in the face of change
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Sense of responsibility and priorities
