The Associate Underwriter role is a key part of this function, helping ensure renewal business is effectively reviewed, quoted, and retained while gaining exposure to all facets of the underwriting job.The Company is an equal employment opportunity employer.

Responsibilities

The Associate Underwriter supports Berkley Industrial Comp’s underwriting department by assisting underwriters with reviewing, documenting, and preparing renewal files and quotes, working with the team to successfully renew business and help meet retention goals, and learning all facets of the underwriting job.

  • Assist underwriters with reviewing, documenting, and preparing renewal files and quotes
  • Work with the underwriting team to successfully renew business and help meet retention goals
  • Collaborate with the underwriting department to review, quote, issue, and retain business
  • Learn all facets of the underwriting job and be trained to become an Underwriter
  • Exercise underwriting authority within defined parameters and work with the underwriting team to quote and bind business
  • Identify monthly renewals and proactively work with underwriters to prepare renewal quotes within a defined set of parameters
  • Prepare BRAT models and BRAT loss modeling for renewal quotes
  • Review, quote, and bind renewal business within assigned authority limits
  • Prepare pertinent renewal information including Experian data, SAFER data, OSHA data, claims data, RAMP data, and pricing data
  • Exercise underwriting authority for small renewal policies between $10k–$25k with oversight from the Underwriter
  • Prepare HAMOGRAK documentation forms for renewal files
  • Collaborate with BIN’s underwriting team to propose renewal pricing quotes
  • Perform other underwriting tasks, projects, and initiatives as set forth by the Director of Underwriting
  • Assist the Business Engagement Department with tasks as workloads and business needs require
  • Communicate with the Business Operations Manager and Business Engagement team members to ensure excellent customer service is maintained
  • Conduct risk exposure research relating to submissions
  • Maintain strong industry knowledge on the Workers Compensation line of business
  • Support the Business Engagement Department as needed, with time spent between Underwriting and Business Engagement fluctuating based on business needs

Learn to leverage workers’ compensation underwriting expertise to assess risks to underwrite policies.

  • Ability to work as a team player and collaborate with the underwriting department, Business Operations Manager, and Business Engagement team members
  • Positive attitude and willingness to help whenever and wherever needed as business needs arise
  • Interest in learning all facets of the underwriting job and developing workers’ compensation underwriting expertise
