PROJECT SURVEYOR

GEOSPATIAL SERVICE LINE

POSITION SUMMARY

Spicer Group is seeking a licensed Project Surveyor to support our surveying operations. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated professional capable of leading and performing a wide range of survey assignments, including site and highway construction layout, DOT design surveys, control surveys, precision industrial surveying, and ALTA and topographic surveys.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages medium-to-large projects, including proposals, budgeting, scheduling, resource management, and team coordination

  • Prepares project proposals and assumes full responsibility for execution, including prioritizing multiple projects and meeting deadlines

  • Conducts presentations and attends educational or client-related functions to support ongoing and future business

  • Prioritizes multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining communication with supervisors and clients

  • Coordinates and communicates with team members, clients, contractors, and outside consultants

  • Attends project meetings, public hearings, and interviews for new projects

  • Performs periodic site visits to review conditions and provide technical input

  • Exercises independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria

  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates survey work involving conventional practices, often including complex challenges such as conflicting project requirements.

  • Demonstrates creative foresight and mature surveying judgment in anticipating and solving technical challenges

  • Ensures the accurate and complete preparation of and signs final drawings, records of survey, easements, plats, and other legal documents

  • Provides technical guidance in resolving design issues, including field investigations, detailed survey work, or reviewing others' calculations

  • Ensures quality control of all work products prepared under their direction

  • Maintains a current knowledge base through professional reading, meetings, and seminars

  • Provides mentorship and training to less experienced surveyors, technicians, or administrative support staff

  • Provides guidance and technical direction to team members to ensure quality and compliance

  • Ensures all work complies with safety regulations, environmental requirements, and quality standards

  • Involved in the management of personnel, including interviews, hiring, supervision, performance management, etc.

  • Assists with implementation/interpretation of safety programs and policies

  • Provides leadership, guidance, and technical support to internal teams and ensures adherence to company and client standards

Physical presence is an essential function of this role. Travel is required and may include both local and out-of-state assignments. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility does not preclude assigning duties not listed herein if such duties and responsibilities are a reasonable assignment to the position.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in surveying or related field

  • Licensed professional surveyor or ability to become licensed per new licensing guidelines

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Civil3D, and MicroStation

  • Familiarity with project scheduling, budgeting, and documentation

  • Ability to communicate clearly with internal teams and clients

  • Ability to lead and develop a team

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to track multiple projects

  • Professional demeanor with strong written and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years ofexperience in surveying

  • Experience working on DOT projects
