About the Agency: The Mississippi State Department of Health's mission is to protect and advance the health, well-being, and safety of everyone in Mississippi. Questions about this position can be directed to recruitment@msdh.ms.gov.
About the Position: This is a time limited position. This position serves within the Mississippi State Department of Health, Office of STD/HIV, as a Community Health Worker in District VII. The position provides community-based outreach, prevention education, resource navigation, and referral support to individuals and communities disproportionately affected by HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Primary duties include conducting outreach in community settings; assisting with implementation of testing, education, and prevention activities; providing accurate health information and linkage to services; documenting encounters and activities in required systems; supporting follow-up with clients and community partners; and maintaining effective working relationships with community-based organizations, local agencies, and internal MSDH staff. The position is expected to represent MSDH professionally, protect confidentiality, and support program goals related to engagement, prevention, and connection to care.
What you'll need to be Successful: The applicant should be able to communicate clearly with diverse audiences; build rapport and trust in community settings; provide culturally responsive education and referrals; maintain confidentiality; organize outreach activities and documentation; follow policies and reporting requirements; and work collaboratively with community partners and MSDH staff. Knowledge of community resources, social determinants of health, and basic HIV/STD prevention concepts will support success. The applicant should also be dependable, self-directed, and able to balance field-based work with timely follow-up.
