Job Title: Director, Insurance & Risk Management

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Director, Insurance & Risk Management to lead the design, implementation, and governance of enterprise-wide insurance and risk management programs. This position is responsible for protecting the organization's people, assets, operations, reputation, and financial strength through effective risk identification, assessment, mitigation, financing, and transfer strategies.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing commercial insurance programs, claims, broker relationships, enterprise risk management, and cross-functional stakeholder partnerships in a complex corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Insurance Strategy & Program Management:
- Develop and execute enterprise insurance and risk management strategies.
- Design, implement, and manage commercial insurance and risk transfer programs.
- Oversee insurance programs including:
- Property
- General Liability & Excess Umbrella
- Product Liability
- Auto Liability
- Workers' Compensation
- Directors & Officers (D&O)
- Employment Practices Liability (EPL)
- Fiduciary Liability
- Cyber Insurance
- Crime/Fidelity
- Environmental Liability
- Marine/Cargo
- Product Recall and other specialty coverages
- Lead insurance renewals, underwriting submissions, market negotiations, and policy reviews.
- Negotiate coverage, pricing, and policy terms with insurers and brokers.
- Manage insurance budgets, premium projections, retained claims, and total cost of risk analysis.
- Develop renewal strategies that balance risk protection and cost optimization.
Operational Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and prioritize operational and strategic risks.
- Support enterprise risk management initiatives, risk assessments, and mitigation planning.
- Promote a strong enterprise risk culture.
- Develop risk policies, insurance procedures, and governance processes.
Claims & Loss Management:
- Oversee major insurance claims including property, casualty, workers' compensation, and litigation-related matters.
- Coordinate with brokers, carriers, legal counsel, and business stakeholders to resolve claims efficiently.
- Drive loss prevention initiatives and property risk engineering recommendations.
- Monitor claims performance and identify opportunities to reduce total cost of risk.
Contractual Risk Management:
- Review customer, supplier, transportation, procurement, and commercial contracts for insurance and indemnification provisions.
- Advise business partners on contractual risk allocation and insurance requirements.
- Partner with Legal, Procurement, Sales, and Operations during contract negotiations.
Cyber & Emerging Risk:
- Partner with Cyber Security and Digital teams to assess cyber risk exposures.
- Monitor emerging operational, regulatory, and technology risks.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies for evolving business risks.
Mergers, Acquisitions & Strategic Projects:
- Support acquisitions, divestitures, integrations, joint ventures, and major capital projects.
- Conduct insurance and risk due diligence.
- Coordinate transaction-specific insurance solutions.
Compliance & Governance:
- Ensure compliance with insurance regulations and internal governance standards.
- Maintain insurance documentation, certificates, filings, and reporting.
- Prepare executive presentations and leadership reports.
- Support internal and external audits.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management:
- Lead relationships with insurance brokers, carriers, consultants, and third-party vendors.
- Establish service-level expectations and performance standards.
- Collaborate with global teams to leverage best practices and market intelligence.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience leading corporate Insurance & Risk Management programs.
- Strong knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, claims management, and enterprise risk management.
- Experience managing broker and insurer relationships.
- Expertise in insurance renewals, underwriting, policy negotiations, and risk financing.
- Strong understanding of operational risk, business continuity, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience supporting mergers & acquisitions and strategic business initiatives.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to partner effectively with Legal, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, IT Security, HR, Procurement, and executive leadership.
