Job Opportunity:


Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Risk Engineer specializing in the Property Construction segment supporting our rapidly growing Builder’s Risk business. The position reports directly to the SVP Risk Control, Energy and Construction, North America however all Risk Engineers at BHSI are fully integrated with the Underwriting team(s). Ideally, candidates would be located near an existing North American BHSI office with a Builder’s Risk presence, including Toronto, New York, Houston, or Plymouth Meeting, PA.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Support Builder’s Risk underwriting teams globally
  • Conduct technical desktop construction project reviews to inform our underwriting teams enabling profitable underwriting risk assessments
  • Attend occasional site visits when needed to improve our knowledge of the risk
  • Communicate effectively with other Risk Engineers, the Underwriting team, the Valuation team, and the Claims team
  • Represent BHSI in the marketplace by interacting and communicating effectively, professionally, and respectfully with customers when discussing findings, recommendations or seeking clarification while participating at site visits or customer meetings
  • Support other lines of business as needed


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:


  • 10 years (+) in both field and account engineering related to property construction insurance
  • Extensive experience across a variety of project types / occupancies
  • High degree of experience with both EAR and CAR project types
  • Highly skilled in effective professional communication, both written and verbal
  • Strong knowledge of project safety practices

The base salary range for this position is $165,000 to $185,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
