A day in the life of a Surety Underwriting Intern might include:

  • Captures information from multiple sources, account to company guidelines to support underwriting

  • Review individual risks for acceptability and handles those within authority, based on company guidelines and standards.

  • Completes assigned Underwriting transactions and tasks within established time and service standard.

  • Analysis and review of CPA and company financial statements and schedules. Input of those into the surety system.

  • Determines necessary steps to process work. Decides to accept, reject, or modify based on level of authority

  • Consults with agents and internal partners. Recommends opportunities for business development and service capabilities

  • Enters policies and runs reports for the underwriting file.

  • Works cooperatively and builds strong working relationships with territory, field, claims, sales, and other associates to share and gather information necessary to complete work.

About You

A successful Surety Underwriting Intern at Nationwide has:

Education

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Insurance, economics, or related field

  • Completion of junior year is preferred

  • Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience

Skills/Competencies

  • General understanding of basic analytical and financial techniques preferred.

  • Verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts.

  • Ability to evaluate and recommend solutions to work-related problems.

  • Ability to analyze insurance risks to determine the degree of acceptability and pricing.

  • Effective time management skills and competencies preferred.

This internship will be hybrid (3 days in office) in one of the following office locations:
