We are currently searching for an experienced Bridge Inspection Engineer Team Lead to support our Gulf Region based in Daphne, AL.


Volkert's Daphne office is the service line for bridge tunnel inspection across Volkert's entire footprint. We inspect topside and underwater, and we're looking for an outgoing go-getter who is unafraid of the heat, the wildlife, or the work. With this position, you'll travel but not will not be every week. Average about one week per month and rarely more than two.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Inspect culverts, large complex bridges, moveable bridges, and ancillary structures (signs, light poles, traffic signals)
  • Lead field inspection teams, topside and underwater
  • Develop inspection reports, and review reports prepared by others
  • Structural load rating and scour analysis
  • Office responsibilities will include report writing, review and data entry

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to travel out of state
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

  • EI Certification
  • Understanding of national bridge inspection methods, evaluations, and report preparation
  • Successful Completion of FHWA/NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges
