Job description

Teacher of Computer Science (Half-time)

The Brearley School, an independent girls’ school serving over 770 students K-12, welcomes candidates for a half-time position as a Teacher of Middle and Upper School Computer Science beginning August 2026.

Responsibilities include:

  • teaching Computer Science and Technology courses in Upper School and, as needed, in Middle School

  • collaborating with colleagues in and outside of the department to design curriculum that presents computing as a rich and evolving discipline

  • supporting K-12 initiatives in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and the ethical use of technology, all in service of interdisciplinary problem solving

  • implementing an inclusive, anti-bias, and anti-racist pedagogy

  • contributing to the life of the school and the students outside of the department

The ideal candidate will:

  • have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred

  • have experience teaching at the middle and/or high school levels

  • bring technical fluency in multiple programming languages or paradigms

  • view computer science as an academic discipline centered on problem-solving and reasoning

  • demonstrate curiosity, generosity and interdisciplinary imagination

  • have a commitment to the education of girls

About Technology at Brearley

The Technology Department is a small, collaborative team of educators who work closely across all three divisions. Through a progression of integrated and dedicated coursework, students engage deeply with core technology skills, physical computing, and digital ethics, with an emphasis on application over passive use. Two innovation spaces—the Idea Kitchen in the Lower School and the Idea Lab in the Middle/Upper Schools—serve as hubs for creative exploration and iterative design, supporting the department’s experiential approach to learning. By Upper School, students can pursue electives in computer science and statistical computing, with opportunities for advanced study.  Informed by a school-wide framework, we treat computer science as both a technical and intellectual discipline, inviting students to explore how systems work and to reflect on their meaning and consequences.

Salary

In 2026-2027, the salary for this half-time position ranges from $37,500 to $78,450 depending on years of full-time teaching experience. Salaries are updated annually in February.
