Position Summary
The Direct Bill Commission Manager is responsible for overseeing all direct bill commission processes, ensuring accurate reconciliation, timely revenue recognition, and compliance with carrier agreements. This role leads a team of commission specialists, drives process improvements, resolves commission discrepancies, and partners with Accounting, Operations, Carrier Relations, and Client Service teams to maximize efficiency and revenue integrity.
What You'll Do
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of direct bill commission specialists.
  • Establish performance standards, productivity goals, and quality metrics.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, coaching sessions, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop training materials and onboarding programs for new team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Direct Bill Commission Management
  • Oversee the receipt, processing, and reconciliation of direct bill commission statements from insurance carriers.
  • Ensure commissions are accurately applied within the agency management system.
  • Investigate and resolve commission discrepancies, shortages, and carrier reporting issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation supporting commission adjustments and corrections.

Financial Controls & Reconciliation
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reporting processes.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls related to commission processing.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and analysis.

Process Improvement & Technology
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with agency leadership on automation initiatives and system enhancements.
  • Utilize reporting tools to monitor trends, identify issues, and improve operational performance.

Carrier & Internal Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex carrier commission issues.
  • Partner with service teams, producers, accounting staff, and leadership to address commission concerns.
  • Communicate process updates and policy changes across departments.

Requirements
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of insurance agency direct bill commission experience
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Experience with agency management systems such as Applied Epic, AMS360, Vertafore, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivots, lookups, and data analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
