Job description

At McLane, every shipment, delivery, and customer interaction matters. We're looking for a detail-oriented Claims Assistant to join our Claims team and help support the efficient resolution of product liability, property damage, workers' compensation, and other insurance-related claims. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in providing outstanding service and administrative support.

This is a hybrid position based in Temple, TX, requiring at least four days per week in the office and one remote workday. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-minute radius from Temple, TX.

What you'll do as a Claims Assistant: 

  • Provide administrative support to the Claims Department, including coordinating meetings, travel arrangements, and department activities. 
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by responding to incoming calls, emails, and inquiries in a professional and timely manner. 
  • Process product liability claims and assist with customer property damage claims from initiation through resolution. 
  • Electronically maintain and organize claim files by attaching documentation and ensuring accurate recordkeeping. 
  • Transcribe recorded statements and prepare claim correspondence and reports. 
  • Generate period-end reports and other claims-related reporting as needed. 
  • Assist with claim payment processes, Oracle interfaces, and check requests. 
  • Enter and maintain claims data within internal systems and external reporting databases. 
  • Support workers' compensation claim administration, including claim setup, coding, and correspondence. 
  • Prepare and submit required reporting related to regulatory and compliance requirements. 
  • Manage department mail distribution, overnight shipments, file retention activities, and supply inventory. 
  • Participate in special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned. 
  • Partner with internal teams and field operations to provide timely and accurate claims support.

Qualifications you'll bring as a Claims Assistant: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred. 
  • Insurance claims experience, office management experience, or related administrative experience preferred. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Strong computer and data-entry skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly. 
  • Ability to type 55 words per minute. 
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to effectively navigate competing priorities and handle sensitive situations in a professional and diplomatic manner. 
  • Experience working with claims documentation, reporting, or insurance-related processes is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle records accurately. 
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English at a level necessary to perform job-related responsibilities safely and effectively.
