Job description

Job Summary:

Application of insulating material to exposed surfaces of structures, such as air ducts, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks, and cold storage rooms.

Job Functions:

  • Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”
  • Always represents the Company with high moral standards while adhering to the Company’s “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.”
  • Perform duties within a precise limit or standard of accuracy (Quality Control).
  • Assist Craft Helpers in proper fabrication, use, and safe installation of insulating materials.
  • Reads piping diagrams and isometric drawings and selects required insulation material (in sheet, tubular, or roll form), such as fiberglass, mineral wool, calcium silicate ceramic blanket, cellular foam as well as foam rubber and urethane-type materials, based on material’s heat retaining or excluding characteristics.
  • Brushes adhesives on or attaches metal adhesive-backed pins to flat surfaces as necessary to facilitate application of insulation material.
  • Measures and cuts insulation material to specified size and shape for covering flat or round surfaces using tape measure, knife, scissors, sheet metal shears, and related tools.
  • Fits, wraps, or attaches required insulation material around piping or to structure, following drawing or client specifications.
  • Covers or seals insulation per client standard with aluminum sheet metal, plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to piping or structure, according to type of insulation used and structure covered, using staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, caulking gun, banding tools or other tools of the trade.
  • Climb ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and work from elevated or uneven surfaces.
  • Must work well with supervision.
  • May be required to train and supervise apprentices.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduated journeyperson status required. A qualified applicant must have graduated from a WA state approved apprenticeship program for the occupation.
  • Minimum of three (3) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
  • A general knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
  • Basic math is necessary to measure and cut insulation materials to fit pipe fittings.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial safety standards and protocols.
  • Able to communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and other departments about issues and solutions.
  • A steady hand and good hand-eye coordination are necessary for working with small parts.
  • Complete the Company’s Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client/Site specific training.
  • MUST obtain and maintain active status within the appropriate drug testing program.
  • MUST pass background check.
  • MUST have TWIC card.
  • MUST have a 20-hour high hazard facility training card.

Physical Requirements:

  • Employee will be standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
  • Must be able to hear, speak, understand, and communicate effectively.
  • May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50lbs.
  • Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work from platforms while utilizing proper fall protection and safety protocols.
  • Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind; and must be able to work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.

The pay rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior experience, specific skill set, geographic location, internal equity, and other factors influencing pay. As such, the actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of this range, and in certain circumstances, may fall outside the listed hiring range.

Hiring range: $52.00 to $63.00 per hour

Full range for this position, available over time: $52.00 to $69.00 per hour
