Description
Position Summary:
The Material Handler plays a critical role in supporting production flow within the metal building insulation laminating operation. This position is responsible for safely loading, unloading, and moving fiberglass insulation and facing materials to ensure continuous and efficient production. The Material Handler maintains accountability for accurate documentation, including Bills of Lading, Picking Lists, and Packing Slips, while operating forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Material Handling & Flow Support
  • Load, unload, and transport raw materials (fiberglass insulation and facing) and finished laminated rolls using forklifts and other approved equipment.
  • Ensure materials are delivered to and from production areas in the correct order, quantity, and specification to maintain continuous laminator operation.
  • Ensure proper storage and labeling of all goods.
  • Prepare, package, and process outgoing shipments according to customer and carrier requirements.
  • Stay knowledgeable about current production schedules to ensure fiberglass insulation is staged and ready to laminate and facing materials are available to shaft before order changeovers.
  • Accuracy & Documentation
  • Verify incoming shipments against Purchase Orders and Packing Slips and report any quantity, damage, or specification discrepancies to supervision at the time of delivery.
  • Ensure Bills of Lading and Picking Lists are accurate when shipping finished products or transferring materials.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records through physical counts
  • Maintain accurate records of material movements within the ERP or inventory management system.
  • Conduct quality control checks to verify product condition, labeling, and documentation accuracy
  • Safety & Equipment Operation
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and in compliance with all company and OSHA safety standards.
  • Perform and document daily forklift safety inspections; report and assist in troubleshooting or scheduling maintenance as required.
  • Ensure fiberglass insulation stacks are aligned and stacked straight to maintain stability and prevent tipping hazards.
  • Secure all loads safely before transport and follow designated traffic and storage patterns within the facility.
  • Housekeeping & Support
  • Keep work areas, aisles, and storage zones clean, organized, and free from debris, empty pallets, or packaging waste.
  • Assist production and shipping personnel as needed to ensure on-time order fulfillment and efficient workflow.
  • Handle any hazardous or special materials under supervision and in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision or management.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or material handling operations preferred.
  • Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Familiarity with fiberglass insulation, facing materials, or metal building insulation manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, Bills of Lading, Picking Lists, and Packing Slips accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer and inventory management system proficiency.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and safely perform duties in a production environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, organized, and productive workplace.

Work Environment & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
  • Work performed in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to fiberglass insulation materials and standard warehouse conditions.
  • Required PPE: Safety glasses and OSHA-compliant safety-toed footwear must be worn at all times in production and warehouse areas.
  • Optional PPE: Dust masks are available for use at the employee's discretion.
  • Hearing protection is not required in this environment.
  • Position requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
