WHAT YOU WILL DO:ย 

Regulatory Compliance

  • Provides Environmental Compliance and construction oversite on transmission Site Development and Linear Transmission Line construction projects for Duke Energy.
  • Provides Environmental Oversight and compliance/inspections associated with Transmission Capital Projects and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations for wetland access, protected species, wood and debris disposal, site control and soil disturbance.
  • Ensure that all field operations are in compliance with permits, including road use permits, natural resource protection act permits, Corp of Engineers permits, etc.
  • Document pre- and post-work field conditions to make sure that sites are in compliance with permits and environmental regulations and there are no conditions that require mitigation or restoration.

Field Operations

  • Performs all required erosion and sediment, stormwater management and pollution prevention inspections for applicable construction projects.
  • Interprets complex plans and drawings.
  • Perform duties in a manner that will promote and maintain good public relations.

Crew Oversight

  • Responsible for attending pre-construction meetings, constructability meetings, and status meetings as directed.
  • Manage and oversee site development crews. Responsible for providing oversight for sediment and erosion control or Best Management Practice (BMP) contractors to ensure all measures are installed as per the approved plan.
  • Observe that wetlands & sensitive areasโ€™ identification are in place and that crews are aware of them prior to entering such areas.

Stakeholder & Public Relations

  • Monitors and reports to Project Management on status of construction units estimated and actuals billed to date of project.
  • Communicate daily with the utility client, contractors, landowners, and the public.

Subject Matter Expert Consulting

  • Assist in developing recommendations on future R-O-W maintenance requirements.ย 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Drive a company vehicle safely to work locations for the organization.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.ย

WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE:ย 

  • Associate or bachelorโ€™s degree in environmental science, Construction Management, Building Science, or a degree related to these fields.
  • 1-5 yearsโ€™ experience in Site Development work, permitting utility construction.
  • Must have solid understanding of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Service (NPDES) Construction General Permit (CGP) Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) implementation and inspections associated with these permits and plans.
  • Successfully completed the Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector (FSESCI) certification for (FDEP) Florida Department of Environmental Protection. FLORIDA
  • Must have solid understanding of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Service (NPDES), Construction General Permit (CGP) North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) implementation and inspections associated with these permits and plans. CAROLINAS
  • Successfully completed a Stormwater, Erosion Control Inspector Training Program, CESSWI (Certified Erosion and Sediment/Stormwater Inspector), Certified Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control Inspector (CEPSCI), or a similar competency program to conduct all routine compliance inspections in North Carolina/South Carolina.   • Successfully completed a Stormwater, Erosion Control Inspector Training Program, CESSWI (Certified Erosion and Sediment/Stormwater Inspector) or a similar competency program to conduct all routine compliance inspections in Indiana. MIDWEST
  • Desire to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
  • Strong public relation skills/ability to interface with the public.
  • Willingness to work alone.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license.

WHAT WOULD BE AMAZING TO HAVE:ย 

  • Substantial amount of background in the Electric Transmission Construction, Pipeline, Utility field.
  • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) book knowledge.
  • CESSWI (Certified Erosion and Sediment/Stormwater Inspector)
  • Previous construction crew oversight experience.
  • GIS Experience.
  • Strong knowledge ANSI Z133 safety standards.
  • Having a military background is a plus.
  • Bi-Lingual speaking (English and Spanish) is a plus.

Working Environment

Work with a team and alone; primarily in an outdoor field environment and/or low light conditions; foot patrol of energy corridors in the vicinity of power lines and/or pipelines; remote locations as well as urban, city environment; physical demands and travel from site to site, including: walking/hiking on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, rocky, sandy, uneven, rough, unstable, steep terrain, hills and slopes, dense vegetation; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, and all types of weather extremes including snow, ice, fog, humidity, and low and high temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions, domestic and wild animals, insects, and poisonous plants. Other working conditions may include in a vehicle or limited time in an indoor office.

Physical

The employee must have sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk up to 10 miles per day, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand, arm and shoulder movement in the performance of daily duties (e.g., forcefully beat down brush); carry, push and/or pull light to heavy amounts of weight, frequently lift up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 60 lbs. (sandbags); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to verbally communicate to exchange information with public; ability to see and hear in normal range with or without correction; operate assigned field equipment, including handheld computer, range finder, fyrake, water backpack, shovel, and traffic cone.
