Job description

As an ES&E Quality Control Technician, you will specialize in inspecting and assuring compliant processed wire and cable produced by automated equipment and personnel. 

Primary responsibility to verify that all cut, stripped, crimped, labeled, and terminated wire meets ES&E quality standards, customer specifications, and industry requirements. Ensure that automated production outputs are accurate, consistent, and ready for downstream assembly in control panels and harness builds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Inspection and Compliance
  • Conduct detailed inspections of processed wire and cable at defined checkpoints throughout production.
  • Verify cut length accuracy, strip length tolerances, and insulation integrity.
  • Inspect crimp quality (crimp height, insulation position, barrel compression) using micrometers, pulltest equipment, and visual acceptance criteria.
  • Confirm correct terminal type, orientation, batch, and wire gauge per engineering documentation.
  • Validate printed or heatshrink labels for accuracy, placement, and legibility.
Testing and Documentation
  • Develop, maintain, and own the wire processing quality program, including inspection procedures, sampling plans, and test equipment usage.
  • Perform pulltests, crimp height checks, and periodic sample audits to validate machine performance.
  • Document test results, including measurements, test procedures, and any deviations in MES as required.
  • Maintain accurate records for auditing purposes.
Calibration and Verification
  • Manage calibration of measuring and testing equipment and maintain asset calibration log.
Machine Output Monitoring
  • Monitor automated equipment (cut/strip/crimp/mark machines) for output consistency and signs of drift or degradation.
  • Identify trends such as length variation, strip quality, crimp compression, and mark variations.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Work closely with engineers and production team to communicate any quality or safety concerns promptly.
  • Collaborate on corrective actions when deviations occur.
  • Communicate abnormalities promptly to Production Leads and Engineering.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify areas for process improvement related to quality control.
  • Propose Poka Yoke (mistake proof) enhancements to streamline production while maintaining safety standards.
  • Recommendations for test equipment to further increase testing accuracy and efficiency.

Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1- 4 years' experience in Quality Control
  • Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or relevant technical experience.
  • Knowledgeable in wire and cable attributes, including gauge, insulation type, conductor materials, strip tolerances, terminal compatibility, and processing methods such as automated cut/strip/crimp operations.
  • Capable of authoring technical documentation.
  • Knowledgeable of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery), and UL508a.
  • Selfmotivated and willing to learn mentality.
  • Work is primarily performed in a production environment. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be extremely detail oriented and able to communicate effectively.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with control hardware applications which include Rockwell panel components.
  • Capable of solving problems independently and takes ownership of assigned project tasks.
  • "Hands on" electrical/mechanical experience or hobbies.
