Insulation Manager information

What does an insulation manager do?

An Insulation Manager oversees the installation, maintenance, and quality control of insulation materials in buildings or industrial facilities. They are responsible for managing teams, ensuring projects meet safety and regulatory standards, and coordinating with clients and contractors. Their role includes budgeting, scheduling, and providing technical guidance to ensure energy efficiency and proper thermal protection. Effective Insulation Managers optimize project efficiency and help reduce energy costs for their clients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an insulation manager?

To thrive as an Insulation Manager, you need a solid understanding of insulation materials, construction processes, project management, and typically a relevant degree or industry experience. Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, estimating software, and project management tools like MS Project or Primavera is often required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities help you effectively manage teams and coordinate with stakeholders. These skills and qualities are important to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high standards, directly impacting cost control and client satisfaction.

What are some common challenges an insulation manager faces when coordinating project timelines and resources?

Insulation Managers often encounter challenges in balancing project deadlines with the availability of skilled labor and materials. Fluctuations in supply chains, last-minute design changes, or unexpected site conditions can require quick adjustments to schedules and resource allocations. Effective communication with contractors, suppliers, and other departments is essential to proactively address issues and keep projects on track. Staying organized and maintaining clear documentation helps ensure smooth coordination and successful project delivery.

Job description

Base Salary: $52,000 and up per year (depending on experience) + performance bonuses for awarded work. Top performers earn $100K-$250K+ with commission upside.
Location: Based at our Appleton, Wisconsin, branch with local travel to job sites only.
We are a growing multi-trade specialty contractor with 10 branches across Wisconsin. Our estimators own the full process - takeoffs, pricing, proposals, and building strong relationships with home builders and general contractors. This is largely repeat business driven by trust, clear communication, and reliable delivery. Top estimators close millions annually because relationships are everything here.
What You'll Do
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from construction plans (residential & commercial) and occasional job site visits, primarily for insulation and drywall.
  • Build complete labor & material estimates, write clear professional proposals, and clarify scope with general contractors and home builders.
  • Support winning bids with practical alternates, clean scopes, and timely follow-up that builds long-term relationships.
  • Create smooth handoff packages for our field teams (budgets, scope sheets, notes).
  • Track awarded jobs vs. estimate to improve profitability and share lessons learned.
  • Use our systems to keep everything organized - customer notes, assumptions, and communications.

Role requirements:
  • Ability to read construction plans and details.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and solid organization/attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Willingness to visit active job sites as needed and work from our Appleton branch.

Nice to Have (We Train the Right People From Scratch):
  • Any construction estimating, field, or related experience.
  • Background in insulation, drywall, or similar trades.
  • Experience with OnScreen Takeoff (our primary tool), PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or any estimating software.

Recent construction management grads, military veterans, or motivated field team members looking to move into the office - we fully train self-starters with the right attitude, curiosity, and work ethic.
Our Culture
  • Self-starters who take ownership in a fast-paced bid environment.
  • Team players who communicate clearly between the office and the field.
  • Low ego, helpful, respectful, and safety-first mindset.
  • We work hard, solve problems fast, and win together through strong relationships with builders and GCs.

Benefits & Perks
  • Competitive base salary + performance bonuses tied to awarded and profitable work
  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement
  • Company phone and laptop
  • Monday-Friday schedule
  • Clear paths to senior estimator, project management, or operations leadership
