Job Description
The incumbent is responsible for the following tasks:
 
  • Inspect, test, repair, and calibrate industrial instruments and control systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers, sensors, transmitters, analyzers, and other automated systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and ensure that work performed is accurately documented.
  • Collaborate with electricians, mechanics, and production teams to identify and resolve equipment-related issues.
  • Ensure that all work is performed safely and in accordance with company standards and applicable regulations.
  • Recommend improvements to increase the reliability and efficiency of processes.
  • The automation technician works closely with the production and maintenance teams to address any electrical issues related to our production equipment to ensure continuous and reliable production.
  • Must learn how the various production machines operate.
  • Check machine operation and determine the cause of malfunctions.
  • Read and interpret electrical diagrams to troubleshoot and diagnose problems.
  • Perform tests on electrical and electronic components to check continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Inspect, repair, and/or install cables, lighting fixtures, cameras, sensors, encoders, circuit breakers, switches, transformers, electric motors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), user interfaces, and any other electrical and electronic components of our industrial control systems.
  • Check PLC control programs to identify the causes of malfunctions and modify the programming as necessary.
  • Adjust the settings of various programmable logic controllers and automated system components (e.g., PID loop adjustments)
  • Calibrate Equipment.
  • Participate in projects to install new equipment and upgrade existing equipment.
  • Build control panels and consoles.
  • Write technical descriptions for future users (e.g., write a calibration procedure)
  • Modify the computer programs that control programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to improve their performance or add new features.
 Education:
  • Certificate in Industrial Electrical Work, Industrial Instrumentation Technician, and/or Red Seal Journeyman certification with 2 years of experience
  • We are looking for candidates who have completed one of the following programs:
  • Instrumentation and Automation Technology
  • Electromechanics of Automated Systems
  • DCS in Electrical Engineering Technology - Automation and Control
  • DVS in Electromechanics of Automated Systems
 Required Qualities:
