SCOPE OF POSITION Sixense, Inc. is seeking an Instrumentation and Monitoring Data Manager to support the project team through data management, system configuration, and select field instrumentation activities. In this hybrid role, you will configure and maintain the integrated data management system (IDMS) to process, present, and analyze geotechnical, structural, and environmental monitoring data, while also participating in field instrumentation deployment and maintenance as needed. RESPONSIBILITIES Summary Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the candidate will perform both office-based data management and field instrumentation tasks aligned with company policies, standards, and best practices. You will contribute to project success by ensuring the integrity of monitoring data, configuring automated systems, and supporting field teams with instrumentation activities. Data Management Responsibilities Configure the company’s integrated data management system (IDMS) to achieve automatic data acquisition, sensor data to engineering metrics computation and conversion, and real-time alert distribution. Collaborate with instrumentation engineers to test and set up remote connections between monitoring instruments and project servers prior to field installation. Use the company’s proprietary GIS software to design monitoring websites and present monitoring data in the form of plots, 2D/3D views, and summary reports in accordance with project requirements. Perform routine system checks to ensure the integrity and accuracy of monitoring data. Review and validate configurations performed by colleagues locally or in other districts. Assist the IT department in following proper QC procedures on project servers to ensure uninterrupted delivery of high-quality engineering data to project stakeholders. Report software bugs and provide user feedback through the internal support platform. Perform work and enforce rules in accordance with regulations, internal policies, and QA/QC procedures applicable to assigned tasks. Field Responsibilities Install and maintain geotechnical and structural monitoring instruments following Sixense procedures, including but not limited to dataloggers, vibration monitors, noise monitors, and automatic motorized total stations. Assemble instrumentation and Automatic Data Acquisition Systems (ADAS). Perform configuration of data management systems in the field. Operate power tools and hand tools (hammer drill, Sawzall, wrenches, etc.) as required. Coordinate and communicate with clients, subcontractors, and project team members. Perform routine maintenance and installations, which may involve working at heights, on rail systems, or during night shifts. Occasionally climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs. to install or decommission instrumentation. Health & Safety Actively participate in Sixense’s Health and Safety Program and help foster a positive safety culture. Ensure full understanding of all relevant safety protocols before starting any task. Responsible for safety in the work environment at all times. Other Responsibilities Communicate equipment needs, performance issues, or field findings to the Supervisor or Project Manager. Perform additional duties in the office, workshop, or field as needed. Seek continuous improvement in operational procedures and workflows. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Geographic Information Science, or a related discipline with coursework in informatics or data management is preferred. 1+ years of relevant experience in data management, instrumentation, or a related field. Demonstrable experience with geotechnical and structural monitoring data systems. Familiarity with instrumentation hardware such as piezometers, inclinometers, extensometers, and total stations is an asset. Experience with IT infrastructure, data centers, or cloud services is a plus. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint). Technical Skills Fluency in displaying and presenting quantitative information in an effective and intuitive manner. Skills to display and analyze spatial data; familiarity with GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, PostGIS) is a plus. Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, gINT, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and data management programs. Basic knowledge of front-end web development is a plus. Knowledge of time-series data analysis and statistics is an advantage. Must be technology-minded with basic knowledge of instrumentation systems, basic programming, software, low-voltage electrical, and remote measurements. Soft Skills Strong work ethic and professionalism in representing the company. Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision. Ability to learn quickly with curiosity to explore new fields. Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Some travel, may be required both locally and nationally. Candidate must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions as field assignments require.
