Airswift is looking for a Instrumentation and Controls Lead III to work for a major O&G company in Spring, TX, for an initial 12-months assignment with possibility of being extended.
Position Overview
This opportunity is suited to a highly technical professional looking to take ownership of commissioning scope within a complex engineering environment. The role will focus on defining and coordinating pre-commissioning and commissioning activities across instrumentation and controls workstreams, while supporting safe, reliable and cost-conscious project delivery. This position offers the chance to contribute across multiple project phases, working closely with engineers, vendors, customers and other disciplines. The Instrumentation and Controls Lead III role is ideal for candidates with strong technical leadership capability and broad instrumentation engineering knowledge.
Role Context
This company operates in the upstream production and capital projects space, with work supporting existing operating units as well as new project development. The Instrumentation and Controls Lead III role sits within an engineering and commissioning environment focused on instrument and control systems performance, safety, availability and reliability. The Instrumentation and Controls Lead III position will support project execution across pre-commissioning, commissioning and acceptance testing phases.
Key Responsibilities
  • Define the scope of pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for instrumentation work and assign workloads across the relevant scope.
  • Review, implement and support standards and procedures, including man hour estimating, cost estimating, budgeting and progress reporting for instrumentation activities.
  • Liaise with customers, vendors, engineers and other disciplines to support effective delivery of commissioning objectives.
  • Participate in HAZOP, LOPA and other technical, constructability and quality reviews.
  • Assist in the design, review and approval of instrumentation engineering deliverables, including instrument indexes, installation details, location drawings, datasheets, wiring drawings, loop drawings, P&IDs, material requisitions, bill of materials and instrument change approvals.
  • Review engineering calculations and technical documentation related to control valves, flow elements and pressure safety valves.
  • Support project acceptance testing by reviewing procedures, assigning resources, attending testing activities as required, and adjusting commissioning scope in response to outcomes.
  • Develop, monitor and adjust commissioning execution schedules to support project delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential: Previous experience in a closely related position and/or supervisory experience in a related field.
  • Essential: MS or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, a related engineering specialty, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Essential: Extensive knowledge of discipline design standards, specifications, codes and appropriate safety criteria.
  • Essential: Ability to review, evaluate and update cause and effect documentation, P&IDs, logic diagrams, architecture diagrams and control narratives.
  • Essential: Experience in the selection, application and ISA data sheet specification of hardware including pressure, temperature and level instruments, control valves, shutdown valves, and fire and gas detection.
  • Essential: Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads and changing priorities.
  • Essential: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong written and verbal English communication skills for technical and business contexts.
