Job DescriptionThe Instrumentation & Commissioning Engineer is responsible for defining, planning, coordinating, and executing instrumentation-related pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for upstream production facilities and capital projects. This role supports the development and execution of engineering services to ensure the safety, reliability, and operational performance of instrument and control systems while optimizing project cost and schedule performance.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in instrumentation and controls, commissioning execution, system integration, and engineering design review, along with the ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines, vendors, and project stakeholders.
Responsibilities - Define the scope of instrumentation pre-commissioning and commissioning activities across all project phases.
- Develop commissioning plans, schedules, progress reports, cost estimates, man-hour estimates, and budgeting forecasts.
- Coordinate with customers, vendors, engineers, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams throughout project execution.
- Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, constructability, technical, and quality reviews.
- Review and support approval of instrumentation engineering deliverables including:
- Instrument indexes
- P&IDs
- Instrument datasheets
- Wiring and loop drawings
- Installation details
- Logic diagrams and control narratives
- Material requisitions and bill of materials
- Support selection, specification, and application of instrumentation hardware including:
- Pressure, temperature, and level instruments
- Control valves
- Shutdown valves
- Fire and gas detection systems
- Review and update cause and effect diagrams, control architectures, and operational logic documentation.
- Support project Acceptance Testing (AT) activities including procedure reviews, resource assignments, issue tracking, and deficiency resolution.
- Develop, track, and adjust commissioning execution schedules to align with project milestones and operational readiness.
- Support troubleshooting, startup activities, and commissioning system optimization.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety procedures.
- Utilize data analysis tools and reporting systems to monitor project progress, equipment performance, and commissioning metrics.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to commissioning processes, instrumentation reliability, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, or related Engineering discipline preferred; equivalent professional experience considered.
- Previous experience in a closely related instrumentation, controls, commissioning, or engineering role required.
- Supervisory or project coordination experience preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of instrumentation and control system design standards, specifications, codes, and safety requirements.
- Experience reviewing and updating:
- Cause and effect diagrams
- P&IDs
- Logic diagrams
- Architecture diagrams
- Control narratives
- Experience with ISA datasheet specifications and instrumentation hardware selection.
- Strong understanding of commissioning execution, startup activities, and acceptance testing processes.
- Experience with data analysis tools including SAP, Tableau, and Analytics for Excel preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project demands and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
