Job Summary
Nuclear Instrument Technician I:
Works under direction of a Supervisor or Senior Technician and performs maintenance and calibration activities. Performs work activities in both a shop and field environment to include normal and radiological areas of the plant. Work activities are related to maintenance, calibration and testing of safety-related equipment associated with electrical, mechanical and instrumentation and control systems. Satisfactorily completes the Instrument and Control Technician Training program. Assists with scheduled work activities such as preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and calibrations. Works on both analog and digital control systems including microprocessor, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation and controls including pressure, temperature, and flow sensors and associated alarm circuits. Corrects anomalous operations of indicators, controllers and instrument loops using more advanced test equipment and investigative techniques. Accurately completes documentation associated with assigned job tasks and complies with approved procedures.Complies with and demonstrates a working knowledge of Work Management processes, Equipment Clearances (safety tagging), Radiological Work permits associated with department maintenance work assignments and Safety regulations, policies, and practices. Assists Technicians with performing maintenance, calibrations, and testing of equipment and control loops on systems and equipment, including the reactor containment and other radiological areas, during all modes of plant operation. Uses industry accepted human performance practices to promote error free performance and coaches others to raise standards and expectations. Satisfactorily completes the initial training requirements and on-the-job training and evaluation requirements identified in the Nuclear Instrument Technician Training Program as accredited by the National Academy for Nuclear Training.
Nuclear Instrument Technician II:
Works under the direction of a Supervisor or Senior Technician and performs maintenance and calibration activities. Performs work activities in both a shop and field environment to include both normal and radiological areas of the plant. Work activities are related to maintenance, installation, calibration, maintenance and testing of safety related equipment associated with electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation and control systems. Completes the following activities independently and or, for more complex tasks, under direction of a lead or supervisor depending on qualifications: Actively involved in completing scheduled work activities such as preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, calibrations and troubleshooting. Completes maintenance and calibration of major instrumentation and control associated with reactor protection and turbine control in addition to other important safety related equipment. Works on both analog and digital control systems and includes maintenance on microprocessor, electronic and pneumatic instrumentation and control systems including pressure, temperature and flow sensors and associated alarm circuits. Corrects anomalous operation of control and protection systems through the use of computer traces and trends, data obtained using sophisticated test equipment and fundamental and advanced investigative techniques. Accurately completes documentation associated with assigned job tasks and complies with all regulatory and site procedures and policies, including Site Emergency Plan and technical Specifications.Complies with and demonstrates working knowledge of Work Management processes, Equipment Clearances (safety tagging), Radiological Work Permits associated with department maintenance work assignments, and safety regulations, policies and practices. Works with other departments with performing maintenance, calibrations, testing of equipment and control loops, and troubleshooting on systems and equipment, including the reactor containment and other radiological areas, during all modes of plant operation.Uses industry accepted human performance practices to promote error free performance and coaches others to raise standards and expectations. Nuclear Instrument Technician III:
Independently performs maintenance and calibration activities and may lead other technicians in the field. Performs work activities in both a shop and field environment to include both normal and radiological areas of the plant. Work activities are related to maintenance, installation, calibration, maintenance and testing of safety-related equipment associated with electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation and control systems. Satisfactorily completes the Instrument and Control Technician Training Program. Leads and completes scheduled work activities such as preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, calibrations and troubleshooting. Performs maintenance and calibration of major instrumentation and control associated with Reactor protection and Turbine Control in addition to other important safety related equipment. Coordinates work with other departments to facilitate job completion and to ensure synchronized efforts: Works on both analog and digital control systems and includes maintenance on microprocessor, electronic and pneumatic instrumentation and control systems including pressure, temperature and flow sensors and associated alarm circuits. Corrects anomalous operation of control and protection systems through the use of computer traces and trends, data obtained using sophisticated test equipment and fundamental and advanced investigative techniques. Accurately completes documentation associated with assigned job tasks and complies with all regulatory and site procedures and policies, including Site Emergency Plan and technical Specifications. Works with other technicians to ensure accurate documentation. Demonstrates high level of knowledge of Work Management processes, Equipment Clearances (safety tagging), Radiological Work Permits associated with department maintenance work assignments, and Safety regulations, policies and practices. Provides peer support in these processes. Actively works with other departments to perform maintenance, calibrations, testing of equipment and control loops, and troubleshooting on systems and equipment, including the reactor containment and other radiological areas, during all modes of plant operation.Uses and reinforces use of industry accepted human performance practices to promote error free performance and coaches others to raise standards and expectations. Supports Engineers in the conduct of data collection and testing. As necessary, performs circuit board component level repair and calibration. Actively works with Engineering on plant design changes and modifications, both electrically and mechanically, for new or upgraded instrumentation and controls.

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Nuclear Instrument Technician I:
0-2 years of related experience. Successful completion of the Instrument and Control Technician qualification test. Demonstrated working knowledge of electronic equipment and circuitry. Demonstrated familiarity with the general theories of instrumentation and control and their methods of application in nuclear power stations. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot analog and digital instrumentation and control circuits. Demonstrated general familiarity of electrical and mechanical physical/dimensional measurements. Demonstrated ability to interpret a range of general diagrams, prints, and written procedural instructions and to perform work using the information. Satisfactorily completes the required initial training and on-the-job training and evaluation processes in order to proceed in line of progression as identified in the Nuclear Instrument Technician Training Program as accredited by the National Academy for Nuclear Training. Must be physically able and willing to utilize respirators, SCBA bottles, fall protection or other equipment essential to the requirements of maintaining a Nuclear Power Plant including making containment entries. Must be able to and willing to work at varying elevations, confined quarters and radiological areas of the plant. Must have the physical ability to carry a minimum of 50 pounds tooling, test equipment, and plant equipment.
Nuclear Instrument Technician II:
Successful completion of I&C Development Program or equivalency. Must have at least 2 years of experience working in I&C. Demonstrated detailed knowledge of electronic equipment and circuitry. Demonstrated detailed understanding in the theories of instrumentation and control and their methods of application in nuclear power stations. Demonstrated ability to perform complex troubleshooting of analog and digital instrumentation and control circuits. Demonstrated detailed comprehension of electrical and mechanical physical/dimensional measurements. Demonstrated ability to interpret diagrams, prints, vendor technical manuals and detailed written procedural instructions and to perform work using the information. Demonstrated detailed knowledge of and ability to apply safety regulations, policies, and practices. Must be physically able and willing to utilize respirators, SCBA bottles, fall protection or other equipment essential to the requirements of maintaining a Nuclear Power Plant including making containment entries. Must be able to and willing to work at varying elevations, confined quarters and radiological areas of the plant. Demonstrated ability to interpret diagrams, prints, vendor technical manuals and detailed written procedural instructions and to perform work using the information. Basic Qualifications
Nuclear Instrument Technician I: 0-2 years of related experience.
Nuclear Instrument Technician II: 2+ years of experience working in I&C. Successful completion of I&C Development Program or equivalency.
Nuclear Instrument Technician III: 5+ years of experience working in I&C, of which at least 1 year must be nuclear experience.
1+ years of Nuclear Experience required for all levels.
Education Requirements
Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
Associate
Preferred Disciplines: Instrumentation Technology
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred disciplines(s) listed above.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Education requirements: High school diploma
Minimum experience for the position:
Related experience which shall include 2 years;
Nuclear power plant experience 1 year
Note: Regarding "related experience" for radiation protection technicians, 2000 working hours is acceptable as representing one
year of experience. There is no expectation of a minimum timeframe for accumulating these 2000 hours (e.g., not less than 40
weeks), nor is there a limit applied to the number of hours that can be credited in a week. However, no more than 2000 hours can
credited toward related experience for radiation protection technicians in any one calendar year.
