Position Summary
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a full-time, fixed-term faculty position at the master's level to serve as a Clinical Instructor with the UNC Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team operating in Wake County.
ACT is an intensive, multi-disciplinary, community-based mental health service for adults with severe and persistent mental illness, with a particular focus on individuals with primary psychotic disorders. ACT targets individuals who have significant functional impairments, as well as complicating treatment factors that present barriers to participation in more traditional office-based services. The ACT Team provides crisis response services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through an on-call crisis line. This position participates in the rotation of the ACT on-call phone.
Master's level ACT clinicians are responsible for the coordination of ACT services for an assigned group of individuals served by the ACT Team, including the assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of evidence-based interventions, rehabilitation, and support services. Area(s) of focus will be based on clinician expertise and skill as well as the needs of the caseload, and could include evidence-based therapy appropriate for the population, integrated dual disorders treatment for co-occurring disorders, housing, employment, and psychiatric rehabilitation, among others. This position may participate in the supervision of trainees during rotations or placement with the ACT Team.
In addition to the duties listed above, this position may have additional supervisory and administrative responsibilities to function as the ACT Team Lead. These additional responsibilities, which will be outlined as a secondary appointment, are distinct from the Clinical Instructor appointment. These responsibilities include provision of clinical leadership for the ACT program in collaboration with the ACT Medical Director, provision of clinical and administrative supervision to staff, and oversight for the day-to-day operations of the team. They are responsible for ensuring that the team is providing the highest quality of care to service recipients and maximizing resources though attentiveness to authorization and billing practices. The Team Lead is a practicing clinician and provides direct services to individuals served by the ACT Team, including empirically based therapeutic modalities, psychoeducation and support for individuals' family members, clinical assessments, crisis response services, and development and implementation of person-centered treatment plans. The Team Lead provides clinical back-up for on-call staff and will participate in the rotation of the on-call phone.
