Student Fitness Instructor (Turlock)

    • Position Summary
    • Temporary hourly-intermittent student assistant positions available in Campus Recreation.
    • Start Date
    • Positions available on or after August 17, 2026 and ending on or before May 31, 2027.  Possibility of reappointment based on budget, department needs, and job performance.
    • Job Description/Duties

    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Assist in maintaining one or more group fitness exercise classes during the fiscal year including exercise instruction and the distribution, re-organization, cleaning and care of equipment.
      • Assist in communicating regularly with professional staff on programs and with participants and clients according to their needs, schedules, and abilities.
      • Assist in attending regularly scheduled staff meetings. Perform all other duties or projects as assigned.
      • Other duties as assigned.
    • Qualifications
    • Preferred Qualifications:
      • Demonstrates certification through a recognized professional organization (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NNSCA, or NASM).
      • Demonstrate prior experience within the past twelve months of leading group fitness classes.
      • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with a variety of Group Fitness classes.
      • Demonstrates CPR and First Aid certification (preferred; will train if not).
      • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with Personal Training
      • Must meet all other eligibility requirements per the Student Employment Policies (see https://www.csustan.edu/hr/student- employment).
      • Demonstrates the ability to lead classes at the appropriate level.
      • Demonstrates the ability to talk or hear in a loud environment.
      • Demonstrates specific vision abilities such as: close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
      • Demonstrates the ability to lead Group Fitness classes.
      • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with participants about warm-up and cool down exercises, stretching, flexibility, appropriate music, cardiovascular exercise.
      • Demonstrates highly motivated, fun, and a thorough knowledge of exercise safety.
      • Demonstrates the ability to oversee the exercise of participants.
      • Demonstrates a strong background in physical fitness and exercise.

      Required Qualifications:
      • Undergraduate students must be registered/enrolled in a minimum of six (6) Fall/Spring units.
      • Post-baccalaureate students in a graduate program must be registered in a minimum of four (4) Fall/Spring units. 
    • Salary Range
    • $16.90 - $18.00 per hour.
