Position Title
Mathematics Instructional Support Specialist
Position Summary
The Mathematics Instructional Support Specialist provides instructional support for large-enrollment or multi-section courses by facilitating recitation sections, grading student work, and assisting with course assessments. This position plays a critical role in enhancing the academic experience through supplemental instruction and timely feedback.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and facilitate weekly recitation sessions that reinforce core course concepts.
  • The Instructional Support Specialist reports to the course lead instructor
  • Assist the instructor in the design, proctoring, and grading of quizzes, exams, and other assessments.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student assignments in alignment with grading rubrics.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and grades.
  • Hold regular office hours to support student learning outside of class time.
  • Communicate regularly with the course instructor(s) to ensure consistency across recitation sections.
  • Attend some classes to ensure consistency in course instruction and instruction provided during recitations.
  • Assist with the preparation and organization of course materials, including assisting with course learning management system (i.e. Canvas).
  • Contribute to service within the department.
  • Attend department meetings and keep department informed about student progress in recitations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics or a related discipline
  • Prior experience in teaching, tutoring, or academic support at the postsecondary level.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and support diverse learners.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and digital grading tools.
